These are my Best Actress nominees for 1976. Feel free to vote for your pick.August 28, 2016 at 3:05 pm #1201914666
My vote would have gone to Liv Ullmann in “Face to Face”.August 28, 2016 at 7:26 pm #1201914727
tough call Dunaway and Spacek are two of my favorite performances ever.August 28, 2016 at 7:27 pm #1201914731
And how on earth did Marie Christine Barrault get in?
That is a flat performance by an unknown French actress. WTF? I always figured there were no other potential nominees but people above have already named a few.August 28, 2016 at 7:34 pm #1201914739
If Talia Shire had been in the supporting category, where arguably she could be, she would have most likely won for “Rocky”. (Beatrice Straight won for “Network”).August 28, 2016 at 7:41 pm #1201914741
Who made the decision to put Shire in lead? It was a dumb move. She actually won a few critics group awards and with The Godfather nom two years prior I agree she’d have easily won.August 28, 2016 at 7:45 pm #1201914743
Shire would’ve prevailed for sure in Supporting. Without her, that category was an unsettled jump ball. If I’m not mistaken, it was actually Shire herself, not the studio, who wanted the Lead push.
OSCAR FLASHBACK: Best Original Song (2000) – Attack of the Swan!August 28, 2016 at 9:25 pm #1201914802
Shire should definitely have gone supporting, and would have won. I like Dunaway’s win, but Ullmann was spectacular in Face to Face.August 29, 2016 at 1:01 am #1201914832
Bacall was outstanding in The Shootist. One of the several times she was criminally snubbed.August 29, 2016 at 7:36 am #1201914947
I think the voting went like this:
3. Shire (because Rocky was so popular)
5. BarraultAugust 29, 2016 at 1:04 pm #1201915178
Shire in Lead is one of the most ridiculous things ever, not because she “shouldn’t” have been in lead, but because of how perfectly logical it would’ve been to also place her in supporting and how unbelieveably easy it would’ve been for her to win. Such a lock. I do love that Beatrice Straight win as I love every single minute of Network, but common…August 29, 2016 at 1:06 pm #1201915183
I wonder if these Talia Shire category placement comments would be different had original casting choice Bette Midler accepted the role.August 29, 2016 at 2:59 pm #1201915213
Was Cousin Cusine a very popular film? I still don’t see how she got in.August 29, 2016 at 3:13 pm #1201915220

The movie was well reviewed and an art house hit. I remember being astonished by the nomination. I was expecting the return of Audrey Hepburn in Robin and Marian after a nine year absence from the screen to be a formidable presence in the Best Actress race.
