Discuss the Best Actress nominees in 2004.

    My ranking:

    1) Imelda Staunton in Vera Drake – Heartbreaking. The final half of this movie locked Staunton as my personal favorite this year.

    2) Catalina Sandino Moreno in Maria Full of Grace – Also heartbreaking and completely committed. I wish this movie hadn’t be forgotten because it’s a 5/5 picture with a 5/5 leading performance.

    3) Annette Bening in Being Julia – This was fun and I love Annette Bening in everything she does.

    4) Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby – A changelling role and I don’t mind her win.

    5) Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – She didn’t do much, in my opinion.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

Only seen two and a half. The last one is the one I don’t care enough to finish.

    Stauton > Swank > Winslet

    My line-up:
    1. Nicole Kidman – Birth
    2. Milla Jovovich – Resident Evil: Apocalypse
    3. Imelda Staunton – Vera Drake
    4. Natalie Portman – Closer
    5. Zhao Tao – The World

Need to rewatch Million Dollar Baby, I remember Swank being good, but I finally saw Vera Drake recently, and Staunton was absolutely incredible. Have a hard time believing she wasn’t robbed.

This was a fantastic lineup. Stanton is my favorite but I’m not mad that Swank won.

Bening, Staunton and Winslet would have been all deserving.

I was unhappy with Swank’s win here…nor was I even a fan of her film.

I say Winslet or Staunton should’ve taken this.

Too bad Julie Delpy couldn’t have been on this list…or Kidman for BIRTH.

    I’m happy with Swank’s win.

I didn’t see Being Julia so here’s my ranking:

    – Staunton

    – Sandino Moreno

    – Swank

    – Winslet

Four-time Academy Award winner Frances McDormand

Two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins
