Helen Mirren was good in The Queen, she had a solid narrative and played a real person, it was impossible for her to lose it, it was simply her turn.
Haven’t seen Little Children.
Meryl in the Prada movie is a joke.Sorry, dunno about the poll.

December 28, 2017 at 3:17 pm #1202450642Meryl should have WON supporting. She was no way a lead. The lead was Anne Hathaway. Helen Mitten deserved it, but an un-nominated Lara Dern gave one of the top 5 female performances tgat decade.

2. Dench
3. Cruz
4. Streep
5. WinsletI’d boot Streep and Winslet and throw Bening (Running with Scissors) and Epps (Half Nelson) in their respective slots.
My full analysis on this category can be found here.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 28, 2017 at 4:54 pm #1202450699They’re all great, but Cruz’s performance is the one that I think about the most by far in the years since Volver, which I remember even being taken a bit for granted back then for some reason.

2. Dench
3. Streep
4. Collette (Little Miss Sunshine)
5. Bacquero (Pan’s Labyrinth)December 28, 2017 at 7:47 pm #1202450763Dench would have gotten my vote.
Streep’s performance is supporting when you look at screen time compared to Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada. However her presence is felt even when she is not on screen. This could sometime create the feel that someone would be classified as leading.

Kinda like Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. I’m pretty sure Streep had a lot more screentime in Prada.

December 29, 2017 at 12:24 am #1202450927I think Streep deserved her nomination, don’t get the hate. Dench is fantastic in Notes On A Scandal, which I just saw again recently. Mirren is quite good in The Queen, but not amazing. Cruz is good, but not incredible in Volver. When I rewatched Little Children a while back, Winslet didn’t impress me as much as she used to, but I really was not watching the film specifically for her performance more for the film as a whole. Given the subtle nature of her work, I need to see it again with her being the sole focus of my experience.

Mirren was unbeatable but my God, Judi Dench!
