Hey guys, feel free to share your thoughts, but I really need help right now with getting the poll option to work since I want to create a poll for this race(and the 2008 race too). Any info is highly appreciated.

Judi Dench and Penelope Cruz both gave career best performances that year and either of them have been one of my favourite acting wins of all time.
Helen Mirren was good in The Queen, she had a solid narrative and played a real person, it was impossible for her to lose it, it was simply her turn.
    Haven’t seen Little Children.
Meryl in the Prada movie is a joke.

    Sorry, dunno about the poll.

Funny enough, I just rewatched The Queen a few weeks ago and Mirren is utterly brilliant. It was an undeniable performance.

Meryl should have WON supporting. She was no way a lead. The lead was Anne Hathaway. Helen Mitten deserved it, but an un-nominated Lara Dern gave one of the top 5 female performances tgat decade.

    Mirren was a deserving winner.

Dench was my favorite by a mile.

    Streep was fun in Prada.

Winslet a non factor in this race.

    Never really cared for Cruz.

    Cruz
    Dench
    Winslet
    Mirren
Streep (should’ve been supporting. One of her best performances).

    1. Mirren
    2. Dench
    3. Cruz
    4. Streep
    5. Winslet

I’d boot Streep and Winslet and throw Bening (Running with Scissors) and Epps (Half Nelson) in their respective slots.

They’re all great, but Cruz’s performance is the one that I think about the most by far in the years since Volver, which I remember even being taken a bit for granted back then for some reason.

    1. Mirren
    2. Dench
    3. Streep
    4. Winslet
    5. Cruz

    A better lineup though;

    1. Mirren
    2. Dench
    3. Streep
    4. Collette (Little Miss Sunshine)
    5. Bacquero (Pan’s Labyrinth)

Dench would have gotten my vote.

Streep’s performance is supporting when you look at screen time compared to Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada. However her presence is felt even when she is not on screen. This could sometime create the feel that someone would be classified as leading.

Kinda like Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. I’m pretty sure Streep had a lot more screentime in Prada.

I think Streep deserved her nomination, don’t get the hate. Dench is fantastic in Notes On A Scandal, which I just saw again recently. Mirren is quite good in The Queen, but not amazing. Cruz is good, but not incredible in Volver. When I rewatched Little Children a while back, Winslet didn’t impress me as much as she used to, but I really was not watching the film specifically for her performance more for the film as a whole. Given the subtle nature of her work, I need to see it again with her being the sole focus of my experience.

    Great and perfect lineup.

Mirren was unbeatable but my God, Judi Dench!
