Colman and Close are really the only viable options for me, with McCarthy trailing slightly. Collette gave an embarrassingly over-exaggerated performance that relied too much on histrionics, so I cannot take that nomination seriously. Gaga should have been solely nominated for her song(s), as her acting was subpar. She’s an undeniable winner in the song category, but I can name at least 25 other actresses that gave better performances this year alone. McCarthy was believable and this was easily her best performance, but it sits just outside my own personal ballot. I voted Colman, but Close’s performance is a exceptional display of talent, with every one of her facial expressions elevating the slow-burn to her emotional outburst. I would’ve awarded her in the 80s anyways, so she isn’t technically overdue in my personal selections.

Viola Davis (“Widows”) and Nicole Kidman (“Destroyer”) would have still been in my lineup.

Oscar FYC - Lupita Nyong'o & Elisabeth Moss ("Us") - Best Actress & Supporting Actress. It must happen; otherwise the Tethered are coming.

I voted for Olivia Colman but this would’ve been my ballot:

    Glenn Close, The Wife
    Olivia Colman, The Favourite
    Viola Davis, Widows
    Dakota Johnson, Suspiria
    Natalie Portman, Annihilation

How about who would’ve been your Best Actress nominees for 2018? I really haven’t watched a lot of films the past year but my lineup would be:

    Emily Blunt, Mary Poppins Returns

    Glenn Close, The Wife

    Olivia Colman, The Favourite

    Nicole Kidman, Destroyer

Melissa McCarthy, Can You Ever Forgive Me?

I still need to watch Pike in A Private War, Davis in Widows, Collette in Hereditary and others.

    My lineup was:

    1. Emma Stone, The Favourite
    2. Olivia Colman, The Favourite
    3. Lady Gaga, A Star is Born
    4. Toni Collette, Hereditary
    5. Yalitza Aparicio, Roma

    Toni Collette, Hereditary
    Olivia Colman, The Favourite
    Elsie Fisher, Eighth Grade
    Regina Hall, Support the Girls
    Helena Howard, Madeline’s Madeline
    Eva Melander, Border

A little cheating, but I can’t let any of them go. 😛 Kulig also would be here (instead of Fisher or Colman), but I do separate nominations for Polish movies. And I have Sakura Ando in Supporting where I nominate her.

I love how after 21 threads this race still won’t let go

    1. Glenn Close – The Wife
    2. Lady Gaga – A Star Is Born
    3. Emma Stone – The Favourite
    4. Viola Davis – Widows
    5. Emily Blunt – Mary Poppins Returns
    ================================
    6. Melissa McCarthy – Can You Ever Forgive Me?
    7. Joanna Kulig – Cold War

I almost put Sakura Ando but she and Olivia Colman probably would made my Supporting list alongside Blunt for A Quiet Place, Regina King and Rachel Weizs

FYC: Best International Film - The Invisible Life (Brazil)
