A huge fan of Alfre since Sounder.
An iconic and deserving actor who’s been delivering quality work for decades. Go Alfre!

Not only that but it must be MUCH easier to “send” Alfre everywhere than it was to move Charlotte Rampling around or book her on shows. At least Alfre Woodard lives and works in the US. Also, nobody knows Alfre Woodard? In Europe? Please. Does it even matter? How famous is Mahershala Ali in Europe? Regina King? Brie Larson during the Room year? How famous was JK Simmons? Mark Rylance? I’m sure Monique is very popular in Europe. Regardless how big those movies were with Oscars (and Clemency might not be) what helps is how famous she is amongst voters, and Alfre Woodard must be VERY famous there. She’s worked for so long and with everybody. That counts more than anything. Ask Regina King, her Oscar and her 3 Emmys. They’ll tell you how much that matters.

Late releases that made a splash at the Oscars.

    2018: Vice
    2017: Phantom Thread, The Post
    2016: Hidden Figures
2015: The Revenant, The Big Short
    2014: Selma, American Sniper.

The list goes on and on. Bombshell and Little Women could easily be next.

True. But I think your forgetting one spot that belongs to 1917.

My personal Top 5 of 2019 so far:
    1) Parasite 2) The Farewell 3) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 4) Joker 5) Jojo Rabbit

There is definitely passion for someone like Alfre. She is one of the most versatile actresses of her generation (quoting Wikipedia) but she was held down due to the times. That is why it was so important to see Cicely Tyson get her Honorary Oscar. Tyson was another woman that was held back based on her looks but she was extremely gifted Alfre is just as gifted as the giants from her generation (Meryl, Glenn, Jessica) but the film industry was bad for women of color during those times.

There is definitely passion to see someone who was held back get a nomination/win. Only Neon can mess this up. Even if the film only has decent reviews, with the right campaign, she is in. For those that say she is unknown, maybe in European standards she is. But if an actress has 19 Primetime Emmy nominations (3 wins) and an Oscar nomination, then maybe there is simply a lack of knowledge on your end.

    …my opinion

Her career was derailed for a while. Hollywood loves comebacks.

The worst thing that has happened to her career was dating Bradley Cooper. He’s sucked the life out of her. It was a very toxic relationship.

If that is true, then her beating him to an Oscar would be the ultimate revenge.

The odds are against her? She only has one obstacle. Box office flopping. If it’s respectable she’s not going anywhere. Renée is getting her 2nd dildo. Y’all have gotten too used to actresses winning for films with other above the lines noms as well. Renée has 0 competition. I can’t believe she’ll win a 2nd Oscar before Kidman, Winslet etc. lol

Just ask Jennifer Esposito who was married to him. She can tell you some stories. Bradley might be a good actor but he’s not a good person.

Isn’t he gay to begin with?

Proxima had good reviews for Eva Green. Wondering if it’s getting a release in the States.
