Hollywood acts “surprised” every time a black led film does well while they lose money promoting the next starlet no one cares about, like Margot Robbie.
I agree. But Hollywood does that because some Countries are really racist(China). China didn’t want “Finn” in Star Wars. Ironically, China loves The Rock. I suppose China thinks The Rock is NOT black

99 Moonlight
95 Past Lives
95 Aftersun
93 Lady BirdObviously it can go down, but here for Past Lives joining the others with an acting nom (or two).
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 28, 2023 at 9:06 pm #1205273127Another problem is a lot of producers think most black actors and black actresses are “not bankable”. I suppose that’s changing but some people in Hollywood still believe that theory
Well, that has been proven wrong a lot.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 29, 2023 at 1:50 pm #1205273876Lmaooo this thread! And the typical response from someone like Zuranthiam thinking that a black actress has to give an all-time caliber performance like Meryl in Sophie’s Choice to be “undeniable” proves exactly what some of us have BEEN said and what has BEEN true for years on end. In all major awards, black people have to supersede the “best” of whatever white person set that standard and get everything right to even be seen as deserving in their eyes.

Really? You’re blaming other countries for America’s racism? Fuck off with this shit.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 29, 2023 at 3:26 pm #1205273955The first page of this thread there is someone calling Anya Taylor-Joy a POC only because she isn’t American. Come on, it doesn’t matter if you’re not American, European, etc. If you have a white skin, you’re white. You won’t have problems getting jobs, making friends, the police won’t think you’re a criminal only because of your color. Ana de Armas is also white, and there are a lot of people like her in Latin America.

Racism exists in every country especially with a country as homogenized as China. Lets be real, the country ranks one of the worst in human rights violations, e.g.: censorship, Uyghurs…but having said all that they’ve also been more involved with Africa with respect to trade and investment compared to the US much so that there’s been a surge of Africans immigrating to China lately – estimates show that half a million Africans live there.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 29, 2023 at 9:14 pm #1205274224I feel like the only way a black actress will win in lead is with a white director. Viola Davis seems like someone who could work magic in a Paul Thomas Anderson film.

This. Black women need to work with A-List Directors. Most Black people only work with black people. All black people need to copy Denzel Washington and Will Smith
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 1, 2023 at 3:04 am #1205279102From Variety (before they announced her nomination would not be rescinded):
“Can you imagine if Viola [Davis] was being accused of what her [Andrea Riseborough] team is being accused of? Viola wouldn’t have gotten to the point of getting nominated. She would have already been disqualified and probably kicked out of the Academy. There’s always one set of rules for one group and one set for another. Or should I say, one set for Black people? We see this all the time, and the Academy knows it. Yet, they chose not to do anything about it… so do I think she’ll be kicked out? Hell no! Because ‘White is Always Right.’ She’ll probably even win because the system is made for people like her to thrive. To succeed. To flourish. For Black people, there is no system. We aren’t flourishing. But I’ll wait to see what they’ll do.”

February 1, 2023 at 3:21 am #1205279127It’s funny, just last year I saw a black man slap another person in the face minutes before he won his Oscar and no one took it away from him. I guess campaigning must be worst.
We all knew Andrea wouldn’t loose her nomination and that wouldn’t change if it was Viola. Cmon now.

Well, Will Smith is a huge star Worldwide and a powerful man in Hollywood. I think The Oscars thought “Will Smith is too big to fail”. If it was a newcomer, the story will be totally different
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2023 at 12:19 pm #1205281182What does a Black man slapping another have to do with this category and the subject matter?
You do know that there are people that like Black men but are anti-Black women right? Hell, there are BM that are anti-BW.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2023 at 12:27 pm #1205281192When the Frances lady said Viola, Danielle, Michelle, and Cate were locked, more votes went to Andrea, Michelle W, and Ana. Whether her tweet worked or not, she campaigned to have 2 Black women snubbed. An Oscar voter did that. She did what she had to for there to be more White women nominated. That’s what they do. She pulled a Eva Braun and protected her race, then the Daughters of the Confederacy aggressively campaigned like we we are witnessing Gena Rowland in A Woman Under the Influence.
I won’t be watching that bull shit. I don’t care who wins.
