It’s disappointing to say the least that pros GoldDerbians didn’t predict Close from the beginning. I was so obvious she was sweeping this awards season.

I think her movie probably has confused predictions – I mean, the movie itself didn’t gain much attention at first (and Glenn ended up a sole nomination from her movie).

I don’t see why people need to be perfect with their predictions back during the pre-Globes period. This isn’t an exact science. You’re dealing with human nature, campaigning, and figuring out the balance of performance + working narratives (which there are like hundreds working for and agains). You don’t get a lot of sufficient evidence until SAG/BAFTA time.

Understandable. Not saying this to brag or something, just pure discussion, be4 GGs noms were out I was like 2/3 chances she wins this year, but once the GG noms came out, that meant that Glenn was actually considered for awards this season, and that’s when the chances went 3/3. She’s so baity, her role, her performance, her narrative. It was soo obvious. And Julianne Moore has already done the being the sole awards-attraction aspect of my film so that really made me confident too. I never believed in A Star is Born although I did predict it for Drama and Actor at Globes ’cause I had no clue who else could win and I hadn’t seen most of the other films and performances nominated. I’m not a Glenn stan, I’m just following logic. I have seen few of her films tbh, I’m mainly familiar with her work on FX’s Damages, but ofc I knew who she was and that she’s had a big career.

    Ik, I’m just kidding.

My dear, Glenn Close is far from sweeping, very much so. She has lost many things in her career indeed, including this year’s BAFTA Award. She couldn’t even win the Critics Choice Award on her own. Glenn CLose has won virtually no critics awards, and she lost the Gotham Award for Best Actress. In two weeks, she will be losing Oscar for a seventh time. This would be a world record for women indeed. It would indeed be a delight to see, very much so.

Here’s a quote about Colman’s performance from an anonymous Oscar voter in the documentary category. As you can see, not everyone thinks she’s “undeniable”:

Olivia Colman is a funny choice for Best Actress, because she’s got a supporting role. She was good, but that was the easiest of the three roles to play. The harder roles were what Rachel and Emma were doing.

And they predict Gaga. Interesting and I’m good with that.

That voter is delusional. She has no momentum at all. This is either Close or Colman.

I think it’s an interesting opinion that’s all. I think this race is actually closer than the predictions here suggest.

Olivia Colman isn’t winning anything. She publicly and genuinely disrespected them by not attending SAG and Oscar nominees luncheon.

Close is winning, she’s playing their game and she is deserving, just what they require.

Of course Colman is the best alternative to close, but i don’t think that’s happening.

I’m done here, i won’t be checking this mess of a thread. It became unbearable.

Colman was WORKING. She was shooting The Crown. From what I’ve read her father is also very sick so that’s a very extenuating circumstance. I hate the schmoozing and campaigning. Let the performances dictate who wins.
