bitch, we don’t have the strength for an intervention in the middle of this Best Actress race. Watch out
We don’t have much to talk about tho. Why not turn this into an A.A meeting?

Babe, drinks are fun but all jokes aside AA is the last thing I wish on any of you. She can be a celebrity stalker or even an international assassin but no drunkies.
February 10, 2019 at 6:05 pm #1202769988I think she means Naomi Watts for 21 Grams
Sasha has a tendency to break my heart so I never know.
February 10, 2019 at 6:08 pm #1202769998Maybe the fact she’s not behaving like a desperate, cloying actress and instead is DOING her job might help her? Just saying…
And she is in the most nominated film of the year. They could easily read her film title next to her name and vote for her. What are you insinuating, that Glenn Close is acting desperate and cloying? If you are, GET HELP NOW!!!
February 10, 2019 at 6:08 pm #1202770001Imelda Staunton and Carey Mulligan as well both won in years without the Oscar favorite being nominated and same with Johanson. Even though Colman was the big favorite at BAFTA I would not have been shocked at all if Close had won.She might be more popular over here but she’s still a very respected actress starring in a British film and BAFTA likes to agree with Oscar nowadays.

They will still be agreeing with Oscar 🙂

The difference being that Close was the sole nomination from her film whereas The Favourite had 10 nominations and won 7 of them. So Colman winning BAFTA is really not a surprise with all of that considered and the fact that she’s British playing a British queen. But regardless, all of that is obviously NOT going to repeat at the Oscars. The Favourite will be lucky enough to win anything other than costume design. MAYBE production design. I can’t picture Green Book winning just one Oscar (for Ali), so maybe it will win original screenplay also.
February 10, 2019 at 6:16 pm #1202770027I’ll leave this thread until Feb 24th. It’s just too messy right now. I knew that either Colman or Glenn winning BAFTA will make this thread worse in different ways but seriously the amount of trolls is just too much.
Luckily lunar new year’s over and I will be back to work soon. At least I’ll have something to do!

February 10, 2019 at 6:19 pm #1202770042Curious… who was IYO?
Of the nominees? That Aussie gal who couldn’t make the right choices with her career even if her life depended on it. The one that should have swept everything in 2002 but wasn’t even nominated. The one that screwed the hottest guys in Tinsletown and recently divorced that beefcake from that Showtime show. Theron barely made my TOP10 that year.
February 10, 2019 at 6:22 pm #1202770060I just saw a video showing all of the BAFTA acting wins, and the claims that Glenn looked “angry”, “frustrated”, etc. when Colman’s name was called were clearly a LIE!!! She did not look angry at all. Glenn was clearly smiling the whole time. Here’s the video:

She turned me off on the talk show circuit. Overexposure is very real and yes she’s starting to sound cloying. She needs to back off.

Yup… Naomi Watts for 21 Grams !!!
February 10, 2019 at 6:34 pm #1202770135Colman’s win is well within my prediction track for BAFTA. BAFTA can’t be that heartless to their own treasures. But I will just regard it as simply another Emmanuelle Riva, Imelda Staunton and Scarlett Johanson’s win (seriously how could they ever snub Chalize Theron’s once-in-a-lifetime performance???) and not a Marion Cottilard’s win (I know it is going to be brought up countless times before the Oscar). While all of the 4 winners are well predicted, I’m still mad about the fact that Mahershala Ali is the only one has had such an easy clean sweep out of the four, only two years after his first Oscar win, while he has brought truly nothing impressive to the table.
Congrats to Coleman’s for winning BAFTA.
I agree with you despite Coleman good performance in The Favourite, she was unlikely Queen at all. I don’t see a subtleness mixture of fragility and power/strength/dignity. I only see Anne’ fragility as a person but not as a Queen.
