This thread was a wild ride. I’m looking forward to a less crazy year next year. If we don’t get any more pop stars up for Best Actress, then I think the thread will be a bit calmer and go back to normal with most people just doing Regina King/Frances McDormand style complaining.

If it goes to this again when Close is up for Sunset Boulevard, I honestly won’t be able to handle it. With her luck, she’ll have to face against some newcomer or young singer and this place will be back to madness.

I think wealth spreading helped a little but really a lot of it came from merit- She is damn good in The Favourite.

Anybody else get the impression that Frances was unhappy about Colman’s win? I don’t think she was joking earlier when she said to get right to it before going through the clips. I think she was nervous and wanted to see if Glenn would have won or not.

They were stunned in the moment for sure but they were very sweet and happy for Colman backstage, and Rockwell told her how much he loved her performance in Tyrannosaur.

Gaga suddenly turned into such a funny and charismatic campaigner right after the season ended lol? If only she did this kind of interviews before the oscars. It’s trending #1 on Youtube:

I think right now she’s relieved and she can be herself. During this season, she was way too scripted. I don’t know if they were telling her what to say, but sometimes it didn’t feel authentic. Next time, she should really be herself because that’s what her best interviews sound like.

If Alfre Woodard loses Best Actress next year to some British tart, it’s going to be hell in here…

You people calm down… Olivia Colman ain’t all that so go home and chill.

She has won yes, but ppl talk more about Close.

Her career is over after that Oscar (actually it has never started outside from UK.)

Good for her but Glenn Close deserved that Oscar… When she will be nominated for her 8th time you will say again it’s a sympathy nomination and probably a career achievement reward… You won’t accept that she was great in the Wife because Olivia played a LGBT character and no offense I know most of y’all here are gays men or something like that.

    Anyways.

I might be talking crap, but I think Close has a much larger gay fanbase irrespective of the roles.

I just said that the majority here being gay will likely be happier to see a LGBT character get rewarded….

we’ve seen that with the Best Actor race… As much as I adore Freddie Mercury, Christian Bale playing Cheney was better than Malek playing the gay icon … yet, Malek had got more support than Bale here… he’s clearly not the best actor (even Cooper and Mortensen were far better than him), he was just playing the kind of character gays tend to like the more.

    I wonder why….

Are you aware that most of Oscars voters are old white straight men? right? and yes, they voted for two black actors and two other actors playing bisexual characters (so what, last year the Best Actress character winner was a straight woman, same with the Best Supporting Actress, Best Actor).

Anyway, I think we were beyond that already (at least we are in Europe). Judging someone vote or opinion due to their sexual orientation, it’s homophobic to say the least.

By the way that theory of yours fails (if you think most of posters here are gay men, and due to that are in favour of some LGTBI character winning an Oscar regardless of the quality of the performace), since most of the posters here are unhappy with Rami Malek’s win.

I insist, I’m a straight woman… and I also think Colman’s performace was the best (male or female) of the year. In my my perfect world Glenn Close should have at least two Oscars already (Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liasons). And I was raised with her Cruella DeVil… and her performance in Damages is still a truly wonder to me.

Her career is over after that Oscar (actually it has never started outside from UK.)

She is starring in The Crown, which is popular in US.

we’ve seen that with the Best Actor race… As much as I adore Freddie Mercury, Christian Bale playing Cheney was better than Malek playing the gay icon … yet, Malek had got more support than Bale here… he’s clearly not the best actor (even Cooper and Mortensen were far better than him), he was just playing the kind of character gays tend to like the more.

Malek got Oscar mostly because BR was a huge BO hit and made lots of $$$. Had the movie underperformed, Malek wouldn’t have won. Bale, meanwhile, is better as an actor than Malek, yes, but his movie flopped at BO. Besides Bale already has an Oscar and Academy was not keen on giving him second one, especially Best Actor one, for a role like Cheney.

She’s starring in The Crown yes, but she’s not famous simple as water, btw TC isn’t that much of a hit for that matter… purely awards bait.

It means that her career is not over, like you said it was.

I’m entitled to my opinion which is They Gave it to Colman because they couldn’t deny TF like that… it almost won 0 awards so to keep their credibility after awarding BR and BP all the night, they awarded a justified Oscar ( not that it was necessary since Close would have been a worthy winner too) to Olivia Colman.

I think they gave it to Colman because that movie industry–for some reasons–has something against Close. And Colman herself was really great.

Malek won because of the character he was playing, but was nominated because of the BO hit the movie was…

I think it was a combination of him playing iconic real life person and big BO of the movie.

I really hope all these stans can go back into hibernation so we can have a normal, rational discussion next time. The end kind of makes up for all the madness though.

    Peace out.
