Lupita should be the fronrunner. I would only be OK with this category is something like this shows as oscar noms (from viable candidates at this point)

    Lupita Nyong’o
    Renée Zellweger
    Awkwafina
    Scarlett Johansson
    Saoirse Ronan

Hope Lupita can pull an Idris Elba at SAG after the BAFTAsoWhite(and racist) backlash

    1. SAG doesn’t care about BAFTA l. They probably don’t even know about the backlash. Lmao
    2. Idris Elba’s film had the ensemble nomination.

You get more delusional with every post.

    Have you seen Bombshell?

Yes, I like Charlize but she is not one from my favorites this year. It’s not even in my Top 3 performances from her (Monster, Mad Max, Young Adult and Tully all above this)

I wouldn’t mind if she gets the nom, but also if she gets snubbed. I just liked the other 5 performances I mentioned much more.

I think Scarlett Johansson won’t be getting nominated for Marriage Story. And I think this is partially due to me hating the performance, and also that I don’t see her scoring double Oscar nominations. I find she has much more collateral in Best Supporting Actress in Jojo Rabbit, where she is even competitive to win. With this being said, the weakness of this category probably has her making it. But I think Marriage Story won’t do as well Oscar morning. It didn’t manage a SAG Ensemble nod despite having a terrific cast and getting three acting mentions. It’s not a BAFTA best film nominee (even though they only have 5 slots).

Johansson’s acting is hammy and contrived. She plays an unlikable character because we don’t care about her (or Driver for that matter) as no conflict is presented. They are divorcing for what exactly? The screenplay doesn’t really explain. He cheats on her- but why? The son is used as a prop. There is no chemistry with the child at all. I hope voters can see that this isn’t the masterpiece many claim it to be, and I have a feeling many of the Tweets about it being great acting come from those under 30 years old. I just felt no connection to her character. She’s not memorable here.

Regardless take my snubbing of her with a grain of salt. She’s hit all the precursors necessary, but there’s always an omission. I pick her.

    FINAL BEST ACTRESS PREDICTIONS
    1. Renee Zellweger, Judy
    2. Charlize Theron, Bombshell
    3. Saoirse Ronan, Little Women
    4. Lupita Nyongo, Us
    5. Cynthia Erivo, Harriet

I think she will be nominated for both Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, but at this point I see her more as a potential winner for Jojo Rabbit than for Marriage Story. She has the giant Netflix backing her for Marriage Story (and she’s the only contender the streaming giant has to back in this category) and she has the reviews and the critics’ prizes – she’s a lock for Best Actress. As for Best Supporting Actress, the race is more volatile, but playing a “hero mother” in Nazi Germany will catch the AMPAS voters.

Scarlett Johansson’s performance is terrible and it definitely doesn’t deserve to be nominated. I could count more than 30 performances that are more deserving of a nomination. Awful actress, awful human being, who is just robbing someone who is genuinely talented their rightfully earned spot.

I agree with this. The tree is very wooden in Marriage Story and all of her emotions come out very forced. I rather see her get nominated for Jojo Rabbit. She’s much better in that. In lead she’ll be one of the worse nominations. Zellweger and Theron are on another level compared to her.

Zellweger and Theron are not just on another level, they’re light years above her. And so is Ronan, Awkwafina, Erivo, and all other rumored nominees. She’s beyond awful in Marriage Story and that arrogant, pretentious loser Driver is even worse. Even Dern is barely average. Marriage Story deserves zero awards.

And her performance in JoJo Rabbit is painfully average and not awards worthy either. What helps is that she doesn’t have much screen-time, so she’s somewhat bearable.

Like, why are we suddenly pretending that these talentless Marvel stooges are good actors? I don’t get it.

Johansson missing for MS would be tragic. That performance was amazing.

Oscar FYC - Lupita Nyong'o & Elisabeth Moss ("Us") - Best Actress & Supporting Actress. It must happen; otherwise the Tethered are coming.
