Portrait of A Lady on Fire likely getting completely shut out is going to be one of the most damning snubs of this Oscars year in hindsight. People will remember and praise that movie long after the majority of others in this year’s lineup.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is the true reflective masterpiece by a genius auteur in this year’s lineup, not The Irishman.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire isn’t getting enough buzz because it’s been overshadowed by the overrated Parasite. Months after the Oscars, people will realise how overrated Parasite was this season

I would like to agree but sadly I can’t because nobody even knows the movie exists in the US!

I think Parasite’s presence hurts, but I think the fact that it wasn’t France’s pick was the real nail in the coffin; voters just haven’t felt any need to watch it probably.

Although I am predicting a surprise cinematography nod, and it probably should be getting in for costume design, screenplay, and in a perfect world both lead actresses with Adele Haenel my personal winner of the year. That closing shot of her is just… oof.

Except knowing BAFTA most of them probably didn’t even watch those films.

Zero evidence of that, but keep speculating wildly

Girl, have you watched the trailer for that movie?

She still has Hillbilly Elegy with Glenn Close.

I think, Scarlett Johansson is being judged unfairly here. She might not be the best actress ever but she is one of great actresses. I’m saying this as someone who is totally neutral towards her. Moreover, Renee Zellweger is being judged unfairly here, too. And just like I’m not a fan of Scarlett, I’m not a fan of Renee, either. But those two really delivered outstanding performances. Why do some of you dislike them so much? Just because Scarlett is a Marvel actress and Renee was a Bridget Jones actress?

I totally agree. But Renee’s Bridget Jones’ performance was nominated for Oscar. And was nominated for Golden Globe for even bad sequel. That’s a little different.

I only watched Bridget Jones’ first movie and I couldn’t stand watching the rest. I will never get why she was nominated for that role. However, she was amazing in Chicago. I think, Renee is much better in serious roles.

Finally, I’ve seen Harriet. Cynthia Erivo gives a strong performance and should be nominated. She’s so underrated this season. Folks here didn’t find her interesting because she wasn’t crying uncontrollably

No. It’s because she doesn’t play Harriet Tubman convincingly. I never bought her as that character.

I’d be so happy with Awkwafina’s nomination but she isn’t one of the best of 2019. Here is why. Because Elisabeth Moss and Michelle Williams gave much better performances than Cynthia Erivo and Awkwafina. Constance Wu and Felicity Jones were better than Cynthia Erivo. Cynthia Erivo wasn’t bad but there was something off with her performance. Yet, Erivo is still being speculated to get in.

Lupita wins Hollywood Critics Association and the Alliance of Women Journalists. That’s 25 wins overall so far.

Is anyone else a bit weary on Charlize? I was underwhelmed- by the movie and performance. And I don’t see it as the lock or living up to the buzz (expectations were super high). I wonder if voters might feel the same. I actually thought Kidman and Gretchen Carlson was the more interesting story.

Charlize is still most likely in but I just feel Renée, Scarlett, Saorise, Awkwafina, Lupita ana Cynthia have more going for them, including passion behind their films/performances.

It’s also one of the box-office bomb films. So it can hurt
