I really don’t care about Zellweger winning over that extremely boring and weak line up. Saoirse Ronan playing the same character again, Charlize Theron for that SNL sketch, ScarJo, who was overshadowed. Let’s not start on Harriet.

All my favorite picks weren’t nominated. Adèle Haenel, Noémie Merlant, Lupita Nyong’o (even though I thought the movie was trash) and Awkwafina.

Yeah, it was so horrible. All 4 acting lineup were so horrible last year with terrible winners. Don’t get me started with the snubbed performances. Also I always laugh everytime i read that Charlize Theron’s SNL skit XD.

The way Charlize had three of the finest acting moments of the decade in her Diablo Cody films AND the titular in the BP runner up Fury Road, only to get ha big return for that…

(And I actually liked Bombshell as well).

I’m a big believer (in most cases) that the Academy should be awarding performances from the best movies, regardless of whether or not someone gave a great performance in a lesser film, simply because I believe those performances from the best films will be the ones that are remembered the most, and should probably be recognized.

Also really not a big fan of biopic award winners. Yes, mimicking a famous person’s mannerisms/capturing their essence is objectively difficult, but I believe someone bringing to life a brilliant and memorable original character is just as challenging, just in a different way.

The biggest snub for a nominee of all time in the Actress category is probably Shirley MacLaine in The Apartment. I understand why it happened, but still can’t believe it actually did happen.

    Other bad ones include:
Judy Garland in A Star is Born
Anne Bancroft – The Graduate/Faye Dunaway – Bonnie and Clyde/Audrey Hepburn – Wait Until Dark, all in ’67 (the years where there are multiple all-timer performances/films and they all lose just kill me)

Some recent nomination snubs in the Actress category that boggle my mind include:

Sally Field – Hello, My Name Is Doris (seriously incredible performance)
    Lupita Nyong’o – Us
    Toni Collette – Hereditary
    Elsie Fisher – Eighth Grade
Brooklynn Kimberly Prince – The Florida Project
    Krisha Fairchild – Krisha
Rebecca Hall – Christine (playing a real person, I know, though not a particularly famous one)
    Greta Gerwig – Frances Ha
    Charlize Theron – Young Adult

Lady Gaga should have won for A Star Is Born

Meryl Streep should have five wins

Noemie Merlant should have been in lead with Adele Haenel. Tbh, I would have replaced the entire line-up last year. It was that bad.

Huns, Theron deserved that third Best Actress nomination. She’s not only the most versatile actress in Hollywood BUT has been robbed over and over again for iconic performances like Young Adult and Mad Max Fury Road. She was also OUTSTANDING in Tully and should’ve made it in before the Roma girl, Lady Gaga awkward performance, And McCarthy playing the same damn role.

Theron was the highlight of Bombshell and the buzz was increased even more by the fact that one of Hollywood’s most talented actresses had not received another Best Actress nomination in a decade. Also, let’s not forget SHE was the runner up NOT Johansson. And it’s Makeup win proves that.

The most versatile actress in Hollywood and a CHAMELEON. She’s one of the GREATS and deserves to be a two-time Oscar winner.

Her third and fourth nominations should have been Young Adult and Mad Max: Fury Road. She should have won for Fury Road. Truly a versatile superstar

If only this grand and iconic performance won an Oscar, This performance will go down as one of the most divisive, funniest, and the most celebrated and quotable Best Actress winner in history.

Pretty much. It’s a shame that Dunaway wasn’t the expected fifth nominee that year. An Oscar nom would have been the one thing that saved her rep and career from tanking in the 80’s.

And McCarthy playing the same damn role.

Same role as what? The closet thing to Lee Israel’s she ever played was Sookie.

Had there been justice, Toni Collette would have been nominated and won at 2019 Oscars. I liked Colman’s performance more than Close, McCarthy, Aparicio and Gaga, but Collette was better than Colman IMO. And actually a true leading performance.

The bias against horror films (like 2020 with Lupita in Us) and that infamous score D in Cinemascore surely played a great deal in bombing Collette’s chance.

I hope her role in Nightmare Alley may be a juicy supporting one.

This year’s personal lineup! These aren’t my personal awards lineup by any means for this race (I’ve already been there and done that by also including films that weren’t submitted for the Oscars) but more my top 10 ranking of the performances I have seen that were eligible and submitted for the Oscars in this category this year.

    1. Carey Mulligan, Promising Young Woman
    2. Rosamund Pike, I Care a Lot
    3. Vanessa Kirby, Pieces of a Woman
    4. Evan Rachel Wood, Kajillionaire
    5. Radha Blank, The 40 Year Old Version

    6. Katherine Waterston, The World to Come
    7. Meryl Streep, Let Them All Talk
    8. Frances McDormand, Nomadland
    9. Nicole Beharie, Miss Juneteenth
    10. Rashida Jones, On the Rocks

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")
