With a Casting Director at the head of the Academy, and BAFTA already announcing a Best Casting category, it’s surely only a matter of time before an Oscar for Best Casting is announced.
But which films would win this from years gone by?
Would it marry with Best Picture? Are the nominees copies of SAG Ensemble? Does it change any of our Best Picture winners of years gone by?

PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN- Picture, Director, Actress, Screenplay
August 18, 2019 at 4:38 am #1203028600I think it would probably follow SAG Ensemble quite frequently, in fact I’d say for the last 5 years it would probably have been the same – Black Panther, Three Billboards, Hidden Figures, Spotlight and Birdman. Last year would’ve been interesting between Black Panther and The Favourite, though, and The Favourite could have edged it.
My personal picks for the last 5 years would be The Favourite, Lady Bird, Moonlight, Spotlight and Boyhood.
I hope they do make this an award, it could be another interesting element to the Best Picture race and I think casting directors deserve recognition, assuming they make the correct decision and award them instead of the cast itself.

this said, SAG is shady and often makes weird decisions so..
