I didn’t find a thread for this. If there is one I’ll take this down.

Directors are the ones I generally criticize the most.

I think Best Director is going to surprise this year. There is one particular director who can make huge history.
    Thoughts?

Could Sciamma be eligible for this in spite of the movie not being France’s pick? I don’t even know if they’ll release it in the States this year.

    Foolio, your list is incredible.
But there’s one Director not showing, even in your theoretical mentions.

I realize he might disappoint. But he also may not.

He’s earned 4 Oscars. He’s an actor’s director, much like Todd Phillips.

He could miss a spot but I don’t wish to see him fail.

It looks like Philippines will never ever get nominated so I’m running for Bong Joon-ho.

    The hype better be real.

I just love movies. And awards.

My favourtie category finally have a thread.

Martin Scorsese is top as of now.

Sam Mendes can win if 1917 is good and doesn’t bombs

Bon Joong Ho can win also,Parasite is awesome as per words and accolades it has received till now.

I believe with their rule changes that her films can be considered, with Festival exposure.
Of course there’s always more to it and they may still find a way to disqualify her, although as of now I don’t see it.

Oh that’s right, added him now.

Baumbach has been edging himself slowly towards the end of my predictions. I wonder if he can miss in the end?

I suppose he could. I think it’s more likely to be Phillips but I can’t decide right now.

He could, partly (but not only) depending on three factors: 1) How well late-comers like Gerwig and Mendes are received; 2) How big of a Best Picture threat Marriage Story proves to be; 3) Whether any of the directors currently waiting in the wings (Heller, Wang, Meirelles, Waititi etc) are able to break through in the precursors.

Bonghive is real!!! But it seems to be a long shot for a foreign director winning on first nomination

Darlings, Baumbach is on the edge of a nomination. Marriage Story seems the kind of movie that could win BP without even having a BD nod. Thatcher truly believes he can be snubbed.

I was your Prime Minister once.
