There is if you care about quality. Gerwig did a better job of direction than 4 of today’s nominees.

With DGA coming up I am predicting Sam Mendes will win it, with Alma Har’el winning for First Feature Film for her amazing direction of Honey Boy! I hope the latter isn’t just wishful thinking on my part.

If Mendes is not the winner, then I would hope for it to be Bong Joon Ho! But I would be quite surprised if Mendes is not the winner.

Regardless of whether or not Parasite wins Best Picture, Mendes will easily win this category for 1917. Best Director never ends up being an upset: the frontrunner is always the winner.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

I really want Mendes to win here. Parasite can have BP and screenplay all day, but Mendes deserves this.

Before watching 1917, I was rooting for Bong Joon Ho’s win. But after watching 1917, I think Sam Mendes really deserves to win. What he did with 1917 is such an achievement.

I’d be overjoyed to see Mendes or Bong win, but I believe Mendes deserves it more. I can’t imagine just how difficult it was to shoot that film, but he pulled it off with flying colors.

HAAHAHHA you truly think Ho deserves to win? Come on! We have Tarantino, Scorsese, Mendes and Phillips. Those 4 are superior to Ho. Phillips is winning as he directed one of the best movies of the decade and you will have to eat it. I wouldn’t be mad if the delightful Tarantino wins his due for his newest masterpiece. Mendes and Scorsese also deserve to win, but I haven’t seen their movies. Todd Phillips is so underrated here by lots of snobs and haters. You know what? His movie was the achievement of the year. Yes! Eat it!

I love being a literate person.

I’ve seen all of the nominated films, and the directorial achievement of Mendes in 1917 is just undeniable. He will win both the DGA and the Oscar.

Am I missing something? Why is Bong Joon Ho favourite at the DGA and not Sam Mendes? Even if Parasite being a better acted and written film, the directing in 1917 is just TOO good not to win at DGA. For me those who dont preditct Mendes are wrong. I am like 99% sure of his win.

Sam Mendes is going to win. people are getting swept up in the Parasite win for Ensemble. Truth is they both deserve to win, these are the two best films of 2019!

Expert probably thinking the sentimentality shown at SAG carries over to DGA. I dont agree but I also dont feel like it’s outside the realm of possibility.
