don’t u guys think that MOT suffers from that deplorable guy at the centre of it, and it could prevent a lot of people (esp women) from voting for it? I’ve read and seen numerous takedowns of this film (my fave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whb4unrhy44&ab_channel=MaggieMaeFish) and no other film seems to generate so much outright criticism…

It’s not like Time isn’t controversial either.

Poor The Mole Agent getting left in the dust…

Currently predicting My Octopus Teacher after having had Time in the top spot for awhile. This will probably be the only time this season the BAFTAs really make me change a category (except for Visual Effects I think.)

My Octopussy Teacher is going to give me those nice pts. and the hype is real re normies going up for this. I have to say seeing the trailers of all the 15 eligible films, this was truly a murder row of contenders.

I have no idea which film is going to win. I had Time as my prediction for a few weeks, then Collective for a long time, and finally wound up predicting My Octopus Teacher. I think even Crip Camp has a shot at it. Only The Mole Agent has no chance imo. MOT winning the PGA and not really knowing which film will win helped me to decide to change my prediction this past week. I am going to be surprised no matter what!

I watched My Octopus Teacher already knowing what would happen (I watch a lot of nature stuff and know the plight of the female Pacific octopus well). I still loved it. It showed how an unlikely teacher came into this man’s life.

Just watched “Crip Camp.” Fascinating story, which was amplified by a vivid group of people tirelessly fighting for disability rights. I knew little about this story beyond the ADA, and certainly nothing about Camp Jened. It could totally win the Oscar tonight, and having the Obamas behind the project can’t hurt. It might have been the deciding factor with “American Factory.” I can’t gauge how popular this documentary is in light of “My Octopus Teacher” taking up all the media attention and most of the precursors. Both are on Netflix, so I don’t know. The latter seemed a bit more novel to me than this was, so I think I’m keeping my final prediction as is.
