This is actually the first time where I’m more with the HFPA than “Critics” Choice. At least so I can see Natalie Portman winning her Globe.

sally field needs more recognition.December 11, 2016 at 5:47 pm #1201966650sally field needs more recognition.
Her 2nd Oscar speech is infamous enough without more opportunities to recreate it.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 11, 2016 at 8:17 pm #1201966909Told yall. Televised awards will clear all this up.
Portman’s sweep starts here.
And of course pundits are scrambling right now to justify a possible Emma upset at SAG and BAFTA.
Aint happening. Was never happening.
2 x Oscar winner Natalie Portman people.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 11, 2016 at 8:24 pm #1201966927Well until SAG happens, we don’t know anything.
BFCA only calls best actress about 60% of the time. 13/22 years.

Not obnoxious. Opinionated, as we all are.

We all knew this was coming.December 11, 2016 at 8:39 pm #1201966952LOL at all the natalie detractors/stoners hurriedly changing their predictions.
Or even worse: the yearly whining
“We won’t know the winner until Oscar night.”
“Critics circles determine the winner.”
All while Natalie is beginning to sweep the televised precursors. Yet her detractors will likely still cling onto the possibility of an Emma or Isabelle win, using every lame excuse at their disposal.
I don’t have a dog in the race at the moment cause I haven’t seen Jackie or La La Land, but it’s actually true that until SAG we don’t know much. Portman and Stone both win the GG and they don’t face off until SAG.
I’m not saying Natalie can’t win again, but if her film under performs with the nominations, that could hurt her.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 11, 2016 at 8:40 pm #1201966955Every year people make the argument that Film X is stronger than Film Y therefore performance in Film X is stronger than performance in Film Y, but it doesn’t work like that in the acting categories. Portman has the role and she’s the one to beat.

Exactly! Jackie Kennedy in an election year, the Academy won’t ignore this.

We all know she is gonna win the globe, let’s see what happens at SAG. Again no dog in this fight at the moment, but it’s the first major award she has won this season.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 11, 2016 at 8:53 pm #1201966963If those damn old geezers would actually view the performances of the nominated actors this year instead of checking off an easy name, things would be a hell of a lot better. Heck, if they did that a few years back, Portman would never have won for Black Swan. Heck, she wouldn’t even have been 2nd or 3rd that year. But they fell into that predictable “she’s young and pretty so let’s vote for her” way of thinking. Ugh. But they should really watch the performances this year.
