Post your top ten NOMINATIONS by category.  Even if you agree with who/what won in any given year, you can still pick a nominee from that same year as your “best”.  (Example: I agree that Streep deserved the Oscar for “Sophie’s Choice”, but I also had to put Lange’s iconic role in “Frances” on my list.)

Here are some of my picks. (I’m a sentimental lil’ fuck.)

    Best Picture

    Citizen Kane

    Precious

    The Wizard of Oz

    Raging Bull

    Mary Poppins

    Network

    The Color Purple

    The Shawshank Redemption

    It’s a Wonderful Life

    The Elephant Man

    Best Actor

    Orson
    Welles, Citizen Kane

    Sean
    Penn, Dead Man Walking

    Marlon
    Brando, A Streetcar Named Desire

    Javier
    Bardem, Before Night Falls

    Denzel
    Washington, Malcolm X

    Nick
    Nolte, Affliction

    Laurence
    Olivier, Wuthering Heights

    Humphrey
    Bogart, Casablanca

    John Hurt, The
    Elephant Man

    Heath Ledger, Brokeback
    Mountain

    Best
    Actress

    Gabourey Sidibe, Precious

    Jessica Lange, Frances

    Jessica Lange, Music
    Box

    Meryl Streep, Bridges
    of Madison County

    Meryl Streep, A Cry
    in the Dark

    Gloria Swanson, Sunset
    Boulevard

    Ellen Burstyn, Requiem
    for a Dream

    Bette Davis, Of
    Human Bondage

    Glenn Close, Fatal
    Attraction

    Diana Ross, Lady
    Sings the Blues*

*This should’ve been the performance responsible for the first black actress to win the Best Actress Oscar.  That is all.

I sort of agree on the ‘no repeats’, so I think I may have to modify my list.  This is what I initially did when compiling my lists, but then the fanboi in me emerged and I had to pick more than one performance for Lange and Streep.
