Since it seems we don’t have an official thread for this category yet, and the biggest “X factor” of this year — the Moana soundtrack (think EGOT+Pulitzer for Lin-Manuel Miranda, not to mention Disney’s track record) — just dropped today, I figured it’s time to create one.

In addition to the end credits/pop version of “How Far I’ll Go” by Alessia Cara ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNra8eK0K6k ) which came out two weeks ago, Disney Music’s Vevo/YouTube page has a playlist of almost the entire deluxe soundtrack ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl1fSuPiIdA&list=PLXaH20eIS38bZQwg9kNg6PHYufF4V3eCp ), including the in-film version of “How Far I’ll Go” by Auli’i Cravalho ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UpGDU9kFho ). “You’re Welcome”, in-film by Dwayne Johnson ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyv0ZlW0yS0 ) and in end credits by Jordan Fisher & LMM ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI3E11_Im7k ), appears to be the other designated nominee. (According to Wikipedia, all songs in the film are written by Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina & LMM.)

Any other suggestions? Please post. Once the Academy posts its official list of eligible songs, I’ll try to get together my usual list of songwriters, song links, etc. (Edit: See page 3.)

Not an official thread, but there are some previous comments about this category if people want to read them.

I remembered that thread (I posted in it), but it’s been inactive for awhile. And though I don’t work for GD, I wouldn’t mind if it becomes the “semi-official” thread; that’s usually how BOS gets started around here. 😉

Just to summarize some suggestions from the previous thread with their performers:

“Can’t Stop the Feeling” from Trolls (Justin Timberlake)
“Just Like Fire” from Alice Through the Looking Glass (Pink)
    “Try Everything” from Zootopia (Shakira)
“Still Falling for You” from Bridget Jones’s Baby (Ellie Goulding, written by Tove Lo)
“Wish That You Were Here” from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Florence + the Machine)
Unnamed possibilities from La La Land, Sing, Sing Street, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (yeah, right), and David Brent: Life on the Road (Ricky Gervais)

And some suggestions from there that aren’t eligible:
“Sledgehammer” from Star Trek Beyond (Rihanna; not in-film or first cue in end credits)
“While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from Kubo and the Two Strings (Beatles classic covered by Regina Spektor)
“Unforgettable” from Finding Dory (Nat King Cole classic covered by Sia)

Loved the Moana soundtrack, I hope We Know The Way wins.

Could be, or could split the vote.

I find the Moana songs a bit underwhelming, honestly. I hope La La Land takes this.

    1. La La Land (City of Stars)
    2. Moana (We Know The Way)
    3. Zootopia (Try Everything)
    4. Trolls (Can’t Stop The Feeling)
    5. ???

I’m updating my Oscar predictions to:

    Audition (La La Land)
City of Stars (La La Land)
    How Far I’ll Go (Moana)
    Can’t Stop The Feeling (Trolls)
    —Wildcard (Runnin’?)—

La La Land splits votes, Moana wins?

I’m liking La La Land‘s chances here, particularly if it’s winning Picture. Few seem terribly enthused about the Moana tunes.
