We have other forums are doing well on the acting categories. As both one of the funnest / best categories and one of the worst to exist, let’s see those opinions on this category. I’ll start
— Under the Sea is the best Disney song to win.
— Diane Warren’s best songs were never nominated (Can’t Fight the Moonlight & Too Lost in You).
— I’m Gonna Love Me Again is an embarrassment of a win.
ReplyDecember 13, 2020 at 3:16 am #1203916122Some unpopular opinions:
Writing’s on the Wall deserved to win.
Ordinary Love should have swept. Let It Go might be more known and catchy but as a song, not counting its impact, it didn’t even deserve to be in the line-up of 5. Happy, I See Fire, Atlas, Please Mr. Kennedy and The Moon Song were also way better than it.
It’s a shame that Sia has never been nominated in this category. Never Give Up was close in quality to that year’s winner City of Stars and it was in a Best Picture nominee; there was no reason for a snub, yet it happened.
I See You was the only thing Avatar should have won an Oscar for (apart from its production design) and that has been snubbed of all things.
Stand Up and Into the Unknown were both better than the Rocketman song.

I really hate original songs that are tacked on at the end of movies.
Lose Yourself is the best winner.
The 2011 (or 12) group when Man or Muppet won was the worst. I understand that it’s cool to hate on Twilight but It Will Rain and A Thousand Years were worthy songs.

December 13, 2020 at 5:41 am #1203916322Dolly Parton would be a two time winner!!! I like “Fame”, but both the music and lyrics of “9 to 5” are far, far superior. The same can be said for “Travelin’ Thru” & its competition with “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp”, but to a lesser degree, even if I’d prefer to casually listen to “Fame” more than pimp.

The Twilight snubs are honestly laughable. Meet Me on the Equinox from Eclipse (I think?) was also great and should have gotten in. But I still think that Man or Muppet is actually a fantastic song and deserved to win. It fits the tone of the film so perfectly.

December 13, 2020 at 8:16 am #1203916525Man or Muppet is an ICONIC win just because it’s a song about a frog Muppet.
They really did go there.

December 13, 2020 at 8:42 am #1203916567There are so much to tell
– “GAngsta PAradise” was a sampler… therefore it couldnt be nominated.
Bjork should have won instead of a forgetable Bob Dylan´s song.
Bob Dylan should have won for “Knocking on Heaven´s door”Best win of the category “Never on Sunday” and “Al otro lado del rio”. Very deserving and surprising.
“Ave Satani”, “Out here on my own”, “Hopelessly devoted to you” & “Cheek to Cheek” should have won.
Terrible wins
– “Talk to the animals” – any other of the nominees were much better
– “Monsters Inc” winLike the wins but i will vote for others
– “Ghostbusters” instead of “I´ve just called to say i love you”
– “Storybook love” instead of “The time of your live”
– “Circle of Life” instead of “Can you feel the love tonight”Best lineup 1987

Worst lineup 1979December 13, 2020 at 9:50 am #1203916746Lana Del Rey was robbed of a nomination for Young And Beautiful, i will never stop saying that, specially when Alone Yet Not Alone’s nomination was revoked and left an open space.
Speaking of AYNA, that was actually a very pretty song, if it had not been nominated in a fraudulent way i would say that it is a very deserving nominee.
And i have a question for you: what could have happened if Madonna’s Masterpiece was elegible? Would Madonna had won? Or not even nominated? To me that is an absolutely gorgeous song and Madonna deserved her Globe that year.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 13, 2020 at 9:56 am #1203916757I forgot that i also wanted to say that Big Eyes is one of my favorite Lana Del Rey songs, so i would have loved to see it nominated after her Y&B snub.
The lyrical content is very relevant to me and her vocal delivery is gorgeous and very emotive.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 13, 2020 at 10:40 am #1203916858The 1984 lineup was mostly extraordinary. But how in the world did that stupid Stevie Wonder song win over the other nominees? The other 4 songs were hugely popular.
“I Just Called to Say I Love You”
“Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)”
“Footloose”
“Let’s Hear It for the Boy”
“Ghostbusters”ReplyCopy URLFYC: Vanessa Kirby - Pieces of a Woman

That was such an iconic line-up. But come on, IJCTSILY is a classic. I prefer Footlose, Ghostbusters and especially Against All Odds (don’t care much about the other Footlose song) but this song is still popular almost 40 years later, it must have done something right.

Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife are snubbed big time (and for multiple songs).
