Roma La La Land winning Best Picture is obvious for reasons I have clearly stated and been ignored on a million times already. I don’t think this thread even needs to exist. If Cuarón loses DGA where seemingly the closest BP competition at Bafta and the Oscars The Favourite was snubbed, only then will there be a real race for this Oscar category again. As of now, only Roma La La Land appears to have the passionate consensus.

    lol

The Favorite not getting in for Best Ensemble isn’t an issue- the film has three great female performances at its center and other strong performances surrounding them, but the film focuses too much on the three women to really call it a great ensemble film. Furthermore SAG has been nominating some pretty oddball choices in that category that have very little success in terms of Oscar nominations/wins(if any) for a long time:Get Shortly, How To Make An American Quilt, Birdcage, Waking Ned, The Station Agent, Bobby, Hustle & Flow, 3:10 To Yuma, American Gangster, Hairspray, Nine, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Butler, Beasts Of No Nation, Trumbo, The Big Sick, Mudbound, and Crazy Rich Asians. It’s hardly equivalent to how the Academy votes for Best Picture so people need to stop wasting their time on that statistic. It’s lack of a DGA nod is somewhat odd but the director did get in at the Oscars so it doesn’t really seem that material when it comes down to it. I think if it does win it will be because Roma will be seen as overhyped, Green Book’s support will have faded, and Black Klansman won’t have enough momentum to take it. The Favorite is a rather offbeat film however and like Joyce said in one of the slugfests the older branch of the Academy may not find it appealing enough to reward it. I still think that Roma will win in the end though.

SAG voters probably didn’t nominate The Favourite for ensemble because the three leads were nominated in their individual categories and they, basically, make up the entire cast.  A best ensemble nomination would feel redundant.

Personally, I thought the ending was very poignant.

I agree. The ending was great, and probably one of the best scenes in the film. The character in question, regains her confidence and develops a backbone.

Very surprised to see A Star Is Born plummeting in the odds and it appears that everyone is abandoning it like rats from a sinking ship.

I’m unchanged. A Star Is Born is still my pick for Best Picture.

Moonlight was only missing Bafta Director nod the entire season as far as major snubs are concerned, which Spotlight had been able to overcome the previous Oscar year. Roma’s competition has shown far more weaknesses in the season than any of the major competition La La Land had. Roma has virtually no backlash and is the darling of Woke Twitter while La La Land had tons of backlash and was the enemy of Woke Twitter. I hope you know what a false equivalency this is on many levels. I also correctly predicted Moonlight’s Best Picture win by the way, it had been obvious to me ever since its WGA win.

Its not winning sadly because of the Director snub. However I want it to win.

Well, there was Hoult, the rest of the politicians, and the ducks and bunnies/rabbits (the mvps), so I mean . . .

The Favourite SAG ensemble snub is a crime

Formerly Ospencer. I'm still a huge fan of Octavia but my old username felt too specific.

it’d be true poetic justice if the favourite ends up winning after all the snubs it had this season

Rooting Green Book more than BlacKkKlansman? The bad taste jumped out.

A Flop is Dead. Someone put it out of its misery. And thank god we can put that Bohemian Rhapsody crap back in the dumpster where it belongs.

    Klansman was never winning SAG.

It’s path is DGA + WGA

    ROMA

    Frontrunner since Venice.

The Academy was never going to give BP to the 4rd remake of a Cliché story starring Lady “lack of charisma” Gaga and republican icon Bradley Cooper.

If there is a race its between Roma and Green Book.

Yorgos is one of my idols and he will win Best Film…Best British film at BAFTAs.

We need to seriously start getting this backlash train against Roma started. Green Book’s SAG Cast snub, Bafta Director snub, and Oscar Director snub all killed it. BlacKkKlansman’s BP chances completely died when John David Washington got snubbed by the Oscars. It could easily have won SAG Cast but lost to another “black” film. Plus, it is clearly losing DGA to Cuarón and WGA to Beale Street, only Spike Lee stans in denial think otherwise. Poor The Favourite is ineligible at WGA, snubbed at DGA and for SAG Cast, and just won nothing at SAG.

ABR, Anything But Roma! Please? This boring and pretentious movie winning Best Picture is almost an inevitability by this point but I am hopefully if we all band together and scream loud enough that the Oscars will… Oh who am I kidding, it has already won. It’s over.

Can we please just stop pretending this category is still unpredictable or some sort of dead heat or that Roma is any kind of underdog rather than the unbeatable frontrunner it so obviously is? This stan delusion from ASiB and BKKM diehards is too much. PGA was a fluke, they will go for more polarizing films like The Big Short if they are successful enough. Roma is winning Best Picture at the Oscars, nothing can take it down, sadly. Just accept it and focus on actual close races like Production Design, Sound Editing, and Supporting Actress, races that actually deserve your attention, because this one is all wrapped up for Roma purely due to lack of a strong enough opponent.
