    Wow.

Just got back from Ad Astra. It’s not at all what I expected. Without spoiling anything, what a hauntingly moving film it was. It was a little long and had a few minor plot holes, but the emotional story makes it one of those films that’s few and far between these days. Brad Pitt was amazing, The visuals were jaw-dropping and the score was eerily beautiful. It’s now officially my second favorite space film of the decade, just behind Interstellar.

I feel like in a weaker year, it could definitely break into the Oscar race.

    Arrival isn’t a space movie.

Passengers and Life are among the worst offenses here. Prometheus wasn’t that good considering how convoluted it is. The Martian is dull. First Man had potential but fell into basic territory.

Interstellar is the most overrated here. It attempts to seem cerebral when it’s really nothing beneath the surface of what it presents. Gravity is a technical marvel and entertaining but it’s not any type of masterpiece.

High Life was very good but not great like it was said to have been.

That leaves Ad Astra, which is actually the only excellent film here. Truly magnificent.

    I think it is.

Darlings, First Man is the only masterpiece here.

As a famous singer said, "ain't nobody gonna Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher!"

I haven’t seen the latter two yet but the rest all lack sustained brilliance imo.
The creature feature(s) cast back a long ways, and they’re not as good.
