Who would you have nominated in this category and who do you think would have won. MoNique swept that year like no other but I do believe she would have had great competition had the Academy actually looked into worthy performances. Here is my lineup:
-Marion Cotillard (Nine)
-Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan)
-Mozhan Marnò (The Stoning of Soraya M.)
-Julianne Moore (A Single Man)July 22, 2020 at 5:33 pm #1203596725
Of the nominees, I preferred Farmiga, but MoNique is not a bad winner at all; I am happy she has this award, actually. Consolation for the way the industry has treated her.
Have not seen much from the year, unfortunately, but I really enjoyed Amy Landecker in A Serious Man, several of the women in About Elly, Kruger in Inglourious Basterds, in addition to Moore.July 22, 2020 at 5:59 pm #1203596738
Mo’Nique deserved to sweep that year. If anything, Gabourey Sidibe also deserved the Oscar over that awful Sandra Bullock win.
I enjoyed the other performances, but I wouldn’t change anything because in my lineup Mo’Nique would always end up winning.July 22, 2020 at 6:14 pm #1203596761
No one would have come close to Mo’Nique’s greatness, but I would have swapped out the “Up in the Air” ladies for the “Inglorious Basterds” ladies, included Julianne Moore over Penélope Cruz in one of her worst performances, and kept in Maggie Gyllenhaal. I was one of the few people back then who was pleasantly surprised with Gyllenhaal’s inclusion and didn’t outright dismiss it as a churlish “coattail nomination.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal, “Crazy Heart”
Diane Kruger, “Inglorious Basterds”
Mélanie Laurent, “Inglorious Basterds”
Mo’Nique, “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”
Julianne Moore, “A Single Man”July 22, 2020 at 7:19 pm #1203596792
Literally was Monique and 4 seat warmers. Best Oscar acting win sweep that hasn’t been ruined by the internet of people overrating the performance and win.July 22, 2020 at 7:28 pm #1203596796
Mo’Nique deserved every award she won. I would be curious as to who came in second.July 22, 2020 at 8:29 pm #1203596853
It always struck me as surprising that Julianne Moore got left out and Penelope Cruz got in. The studio screwed Marion C. by pushing her as lead actress in Nine.July 22, 2020 at 9:47 pm #1203596907
Mo’Nique deserved every single award and no one came close to her that year. One of the best supporting performances ever
Best Actress - Viola Davis, Frances McDormand
Best Actor - Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman
Best Supporting Actor - Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman
Best Picture - Nomadland
Best Director - Chloé Zhao
SAG Ensemble - Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Mo’Nique is the tope choice. I really liked Cruz (my fav performance in NINE actually) and Farmiga, but they don’t make my top 5.
Emily Blunt, Sunshine Cleaning
Anna Kendrick, Up In the Air
Julianne Moore, A Single Man
Samantha Morton, The Messenger
