Everyday i´m more sure Margot Robbie will take the fifth spotJanuary 1, 2019 at 4:48 pm #1202715878
the only thing stopping weisz from taking this one is her previous win, I personally think she’s got the career and talent to justify two wins but looks like most here think otherwise
I think the only thing stopping Weisz is Emma Stone in the same categoryJanuary 1, 2019 at 4:55 pm #1202715882
LOL. King and Adams wish they gave a better performance than Weisz. Weisz’s performance was mesmerizing and fantastic. And trust me her performance has a lot of passion. I read and see more people everyday saying she should win. She will win BAFTA. And if she also manages to win either Globe or SAG then I think she has this. She deserves this second win more than Adams or King deserve their first. I still don’t see what everyone saw in Adam’s performance. It’s not even one of her best. And in The Master she had less screen time and yet she managed to still the show and gave a marvelous performance. In Vice she was good but I don’t want her to win for That. Like at all.
The more I think about it, the more I realize The Master was probably Amy Adams’ Best performance. She was robbed. I would love to see her win for Vice tho, and it will probably happen.January 1, 2019 at 5:18 pm #1202715891
Had the studio kept the scene where she was arguing with her husband, I would definitely have Danai Gurira in my top 5.January 1, 2019 at 5:24 pm #1202715892
I have seen the performances of Amy Adams, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz and I can see Amy getting more votes out of the 3. Emma and Rachel gave a very good performance, but neither blew the other one out of the water with their performance which would make it hard if a voter wanted to vote for one of the two.January 1, 2019 at 6:06 pm #1202715931
Weisz would be a great winner. I can see Adams taking it though. Even Regina could take it.
1. Amy Adams
2. Rachel Weisz
3. Regina King
4. Emma StoneJanuary 1, 2019 at 6:10 pm #1202715933
I wish the suspense was over. It’s hard this year because I love all but one of the potential nominees and can be happy with any of them winning. But that one who I personally thought gave a dreadful performance in a terrible performance has me worried. This is subjective and I am aware that many of you liked her performance and/or are rooting for her. I can only hope that someone else prevails. Regina King, Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Yeoh, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Emily Blunt – any of them would be a wonderful winner in this category this year! (:January 1, 2019 at 6:16 pm #1202715935

Exactly, and because it’s subjective, there are many of us who are rooting for that one performance you found dreadful, and frankly, she deserves it more than all of the other contenders. And in the end, she will probably go all the way given the strong narrative she has and the lack of an undeniable performance to award. Unless they want to go with 2 time winner Rachel Weisz, there’s no reason for that dreadful performance not to be awarded this year.January 1, 2019 at 6:28 pm #1202715941
I think Blunt gets in this category (and may be a threat to win it) for A Quiet Place, and Mary Poppins Returns is mostly shut out.January 1, 2019 at 6:32 pm #1202715945
Emily Blunt has a better chance at a nomination for Mary Poppins Returns but a better chance of winning for A Quiet Place.January 1, 2019 at 6:38 pm #1202715948
I still think Regina King will prevail and will win. Time will tell.January 1, 2019 at 6:38 pm #1202715949
Simmonds character had the most important and complete arc in A Quiet Place. I’d argue that she was more of a lead than Blunt.
Thank you. Finally somebody said it.January 1, 2019 at 6:44 pm #1202715955
Considering the fact that Weisz is essentially LEAD, of course she will have more screen time and more opportunities to be “showier.” I loved her performance, don’t get me wrong, but it is in no way undeniable (let’s giver her the Oscar!) I really have a hard time believing that AMPAS would reward her for THAT when they could reward Adams a would be 6th time nominee for a performance that is true to the definition AND is superb, scene-stealing, and TRUE to her character (she can easily go OTT on certain scenes but she had discipline) or King, a veteran actress who is a POC who was understated and quiet but still showed a lot of strength and power. It is actually between those two, as much as we would like Weisz to gain momentum. That’s my thoughts at least!
Personally i didn’t find Adams performance THAT great. I wish they waited a year and reward her with BA for ‘Woman in the Window’. About King, i’m sorry but there is no way in hell he’s a veteran. She may be a veteran in TV but she’s definitely not a veteran in movie industry. And her performance was good but also not THAT extraordinary. Weisz in my opinion is way better than both and for me she wasn’t the lead. Stone was.January 1, 2019 at 6:49 pm #1202715962

Adams was definitely fantastic but idk why people still say she was robbed. Like has anybody watched ‘Les Misérables’ ? Anne Hathaway totally deserved every piece of the Oscar. She completely blew me away and even made me cry. And funny thing i completely hated the movie. And yet for me her Oscar win was one of the most deserved of this decade.
