Olivia Colman is my Queen but is there any chance her comment about Rachel and Emma being co-leads will hurt Rachel’s chances at the Oscars?

Probably not if Rachel keeps her mouth shut about it.

Perhaps Colman is so pissed that she cannot be placed on supporting and win. She would make an awesome winner.

I wonder if the fact that Stone didn’t attend academy luncheon and BAFTA is a strategy for the Favourite to focus the vote on Weisz to give her a win.

When Cuaron won for the best director in BAFTA, he mentioned Marina first. This is obviously campaigning for her.

People are campaigning for this award left and right.

And maybe in an ironic twist the Oscar go to someone who hasn’t been campaigning?

thank you so much for reminding us again and again (and again) who you would be happy to win for, who you wouldn’t be happy to win for, that predicting isn’t the same as preferring, and most importantly, that the envelope opens on the 24th!

    LOL non-stop. I LOVE YOU.

Can we please stop acting like Amy has a chance?

At this point, even Marina has a bigger shot. It’s between King and Adams with Marina as the dark horse. Amy is…not happening

I think you mean it’s between King and Weisz.

Can anybody whose seen King tell me how much screen time(not by the minute lol!) she has? If it’s a very brief performance I don’t know if she can pull it off.

I would estimate about the same as Mahershala Ali in Moonlight except spread throughout the film instead of only in the first third. Maybe a little more because she has a segment mostly to herself towards the end without the two leads.

Wait i thought she campaigned hard to be put in the LEAD category ?? She is one of those people that rather lose in lead rather then win with category fraud.

    Maybe she was drunk yday.

I’ve never understood the argument for Weisz as a lead in The Constant Gardener. As far as I remember she only appears in flashback and is absent for most of the second half of the film, though it’s been a while since I saw it.

I agree completely. I have always been baffled by this argument. It’s been years since I’ve seen that movie but she maybe has, at most, 25 minutes of screen time and she is pretty much gone from the movie after the first half and most of it was in flashbacks. Of course, the flashback angle alone doesn’t make her supporting but the time on screen certainly does. And yes, you could argue that Anthony Hopkins won in lead for a shorter performance….that was an interesting case, but still, I think Weisz was properly in Supporting.

I’m excited for this race though. I still think it’s King vs. Weisz but I also have a weird feeling about Marina being a strong darkhorse.

I guess because category fraud isn’t just about screentime. It’s also about the narrative of the film. That’s why category fraud will continue to happen – there are so many variables in deciding what’s lead and supporting. For example many would argue Colman is more supporting than Weisz in The Favourite despite having more screentime.

Wow like every time I’ve logged in here FreemanGriffin is getting bullied in some thread by cliques of toxic individuals…I guess this forum doesn’t have moderators. What a sad and unpleasant place to check the state of the awards circuit. It’s been obvious for a few months now so without any improvements I’ll be happy to check-in less

You mean the guy that repeatedly goes into every thread to say how much he hates a certain film or actor? He is literally the only person I’ve put on ignore in the entire forum.

I have no problem with Weiz winning. She was fantastic. My main issue is why are so many anti-Ali but pro-Weiz. They are both in the SAME position. Both have questionable first wins. Both are on their 2nd nomination. Ali and Weiz are both committing fraud, but only one is taking the heat.

I’d be happy with Marina, King, or Weiz.
