Rachel isn’t winning this year’s golden dildo just because she won the BAFTA where she won because she’s a Brit (overdue for a BAFTA), playing a british character in a british production. She already has a dildo and she’s not the more critically acclaimed between her and Emma. She’s competing against Emma at the Oscars in America. Mark Rylance was no golden gildo owner already, was in a bigger Oscars film so he had support from more branches than Creed’s Stallone who only had the acting branch’s support being his film’s sole nom, and he didn’t have vote-splitting to face. At least Regina’s film is also nommed for screenplay and score, and it probably was #9 to get a best picture nom.

Previously, the race didn’t have an alternative besides King. Weisz now emerges as an alternative for those people who were underwhelmed by King’s performance. I am sure people weren’t that impressed with her performance because she wasn’t even nominated in the BAFTA/SAG/AACTA. (The only one who were nominated in all three is Adams. I am not saying she is the frontrunner. I am pointing out a fact. Don’t attack me on this)

If the BAFTA went to Robbie/Foy, then those who don’t want King to win would split the vote and she could win. Yes, Weisz won BAFTA because she was British. Undeniable fact. But there is a repercussion for that win. I guess that’s how Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz and Mark Rylance pull through.

Also, the actor award in Emmy was voted by fellow actors. The Oscar was voted by all the branches. The people who are voting are different. We just could not translate Emmy results to Oscar.

This is the category with the most suspense. I am hoping they do it first so that we won’t have to wait for hours to find out who the winner is! (: “Reh”gina (Regina) or “Ray”chel (Rachel)? Most likely one of those two! (:

Weisz is only the third British actress this decade to win the BAFTA for Supporting Actress. Colman is the first to win Best Actress this decade, so I refuse to listen to these myths that the BAFTAs favour their own, at least in recent times.

I don’t think Rachel is that strong after winning the BAFTA. Regina seems stronger than her, and I do agree that the lack of support from the industry can hurt her chances. So, I wouldn’t be surprised with Amy Adams winning this.

It has been over a decade since Weisz was nominated and deservedly won the Oscar for her legitimate Supporting Role. In that time since she has churned out multiple acclaimed leading performances.

It has barely been 5 years since Ali won his Oscar and he is almost guaranteed a second. How can people compare the two when it’s obvious Weisz is more due some attention after such a gap?

It hasn’t even been a full two years yet since Ali won for Moonlight.

Amy is behind Rachel. Both her and Regina won more precursors and more critics awards than Adams

At this point she might even be behind Marina who is backed by the BP frontrunner (though I don’t think the voters will feel entitled to give an acting award to Roma since it already has the Director and Cinematography awards on lock)

As a huge Adams fan I really think it’s shocking people still think she could pull off a win. I think she is solidly in 4th place after King, Weisz, and De Tavira. Would love for her to win her Oscar but not for a performance that people aren’t unanimously behind.

No, no, no, that would be terrible. Announcing a category with this much suspense so early on would kill the momentum for the rest of the show. I remember in 2013 when the first category was that wide-open Supporting Actor race with all previous winners, shortly followed by Animated Feature, another nail-biter. The rest of the results seemed thoroughly predictable by comparison, it was awful. Though I expect presenting a suspenseful category too early on would be exactly the sort of thing the idiots currently in charge of proceedings would do, judging by the multiple messes we’ve heard about so far.

Classy Weisz should take  this. That Regina did nothing, Emma Stone was a miscast and Marino is fine with the nod. Adams, who is scene stealing in Vice is her only competition.

Do people have to keep referring to Oscars as “golden dildos” – it’s not funny at all and makes for tacky reading.

Only way Adams wins is if they want to give Vice a major award and don’t want to honor Bale or the script more. I’d agree that she’s 4th in the voting right now although I’m leaning towards switching her to third.
