if anything this snub bodes well for when/if she decides to take on another prestige role, I’m neutral on her nomination, but her performance is better than at least two of the other nominees imo

Yes, and there are at least five women (that I’ve seen) who gave a better performance than Lopez in Hustlers and they weren’t even in the conversation for an Oscar nomination. It’s never going to be fair.

I appreciated Jennifer Lopez’s performance in “Hustlers” and thought she was very good. However, when I went to vote in the Gold Derby race, I didn’t include her because I liked three performances a little better (and I didn’t include Laura Dern, either). However, that being said, I think she will probably be one of the Gold Derby nominees when they are announced.

But Gaga IS garbage personified and she got nominated.

stay pressed. Gaga is already a three time Oscar nominee and one time winner. Not accepting that fact is basically your own loss

    Joker Deserves Everything.

    Joaquin Phoenix is the Man

Cynthia Erivo should win best actress

Jennifer Lopez snub reminded me of Jennifer Aniston’s one for Cake.
I think both were not taken seriously due to past bad filmography and tabloid image.

Cake is a movie nobody saw. Hustlers was a sizable box office hit and had favorable reviews. Lopez had every reason in the world to assume she’d make the final five.

Kathy Bates for Best Supporting Actress (Richard Jewell)

No, it’s either about the performance in contention for the Oscar or it isn’t. You’re holding J-Lo’s resume against her in a way you’d never do for a man, and that’s bullshit.

You don’t even know me so that’s a weird assumption to make. I’m basically an SJW so no I do it for men as well. I think Adam Sandler was not apart of the awards conversation at all mostly because of his terrible track record too. I think a terrible track record is why Jim Carey never got a nomination. I’m not just talking about JLo despite what you have made up in your mind.

Jennifer Lopez was really good in Hustlers, but yeah, I can’t help thinking that if this Oscar thing means something to her, she should try to take on more prestige roles in the future.
She was very promising at the start of her career, but over the last twenty years she has been extremely disappointing. I mean she deserved a nomination for Hustlers, but I don’t think that it’s the world’s most unfair thing that she missed out this time. It’s a good lesson for her, that she has to work a bit more for the industry recognition!

Exactly. Same thing applies to Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey and the same thing applied to Michael Keaton and Matthew McConoughey, which eventually landed them Oscar nominations. Not sure why gender bias is being brought up. It also doesn’t help that J. Lo was the only true representation from her film.

Hustlers was the best film and performance of J.Lo. Her previous performances and films were really bad. I hope she takes a part in good films and doesn’t lose her ambition.

Just watched Jojo Rabbit and loved Johansson’s performance. Far better than Dern in Marriage Story.

FYC Oscars- Little Women, Saoirse Ronan, Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson/Florence Pugh, Brad Pitt

FYC Emmys- The Crown, Killing Eve, Jennifer Aniston, Schitts Creek, Dead to Me, Fonda/Tomlin, Years and Years

I like Florence Pugh’s acting a lot and I liked her in Little Women. But Scarlett and Margot delivered better performances, IMO. I would be happy with either Scarlett’s or Margot’s win.

JLo will never get nominated for an Oscar. In fact, she will never get that close to a nomination again.

Truth is she wasn’t really deserving of a nomination, the critics out pushed for her to get nominated, it seemed fake especially when Constance Wu was just better than her and yet no one mentioned her.

Laura Dern – Little Women > Laura Dern – Marriage Story
I’ll pretend she’s winning for both performances like she won so many critics prizes and I’ll rest with her win. Y’all should do the same. Can’t really say she’s robbing anyone else, Pugh and Robbie will have plenty of chances to win Oscars in the future.

What are the odds Hustlers is J-Lo’s Magic Mike? Rather than her one and only shot, it’s the start of Lopez-aissance that leads to her being back in the conversation in a couple years? Crazier things have happened – not to mention both are literally about more seasoned strippers taking younger up and comers under their wing and then turning on them, but that’s more of just a fun coincidence

I think the biggest thing in her way was her reputation, that this was the first good movie she was in in years. But the next good movie she makes won’t be the first one anymore

Doesnt look like she is following it up with an oscar worthy film. Here is synopsis

A pop superstar is jilted by her rock-star fiancé moments before their wedding at Madison Square Garden, so she marries a random guy from the crowd instead.

    lol

Isn’t she supposed to be playing some infamous mafia chick in a biopic?
