Also people saying Emma did nothing in LLL is so frustrating. Like others said, she sang, danced and cried and was the MVP of the film. I’m tired of people thinking if you don’t throw plates around, constantly cry and have screaming matches you’re not Oscar worthy.

Just got back from Hustlers. Finally, a movie that utilizes JLo charisma and talent perfectly. She just owned that role from her first scene on THAT pole to finish.

Oh please.. her performance was so forced.

She was good but the film (which is already fantastic) could’ve been even better with a different casting choice for that role.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

Just saw Hustlers and it was pretty great, Wu and Jlo carries the movie on their backs but I thought everyone was pretty solid. Jlo seemed very authentic in this role, she had me in the edge of my seat and broke my heart a lil at the end (She did nothing wrong in the end the situation just hurt a lil). I’m not sure if it’s enough to get that nomination but I would not be mad if she did get in. I think she earned it with this performance.

This category looks as bad as last year. Regina King won for a nothing performance. At least Dern has a big monologue.

All the Florence Pugh predictions are wishful thinking.

Kidman is not being taken seriously.

literally no one’s been talking about the report since sundance

I’m certainly not predicting any other nominations for The Report but Bening is in a very good position if stars align.

    1. Margot Robbie – Bombshell
    2. Laura Dern – Marriage Story
    3. Nicole Kidman – Bombshell
    4. Jennifer Lopez – Hustlers
    5. Zhao Shuzhen – The Farewell
(Alt: Meryl Streep – Little Women, Annette Bening – The Report)

Similarly to The Favourite, I see all three women from Bombshell making it in, with Margot Robbie taking the top prize because she is HOT right now and cannot be rewarded for OUTIH. Dern is a lock for a nomination, but I just don’t see her winning. Kidman and Lopez are happy to be in the lineup, and I only see Zhao happening as a coattail nominee if The Farewell performs better than expected.

If not, I don’t know why anyone is predicting Florence Pugh. Outside of this site and film twitter, I don’t think many people know who Pugh is. If anyone is coat-tailing from Little Women, it is Streep and as far as Bening is concerned, her film is going to be a massive flop. What a weak race!

Pugh may not be famous, but she’s currently on the rise and received excellent notices for Little Women based on the early reactions, being called the film’s supporting MVP. She’s also playing a much bigger part than Streep. Also, Little Women has a lot of hype going for it. Most voters are gonna watch it, and if what they say about Pugh’s work is true, they’ll likely be impressed and vote for her. Also, Pugh shouldn’t be hurt that badly by being a newcomer, as Supporting Actress is the category where relative unknowns are most likely to breakthrough. And in addition to Little Women, Pugh was also well received in Midsommar this year, which will only helps her chances for Little Women. And like you said, this is a very weak year for supporting actress. She can definitely make it in.
