Tom Hanks is a two-time Oscar winner, but it’s somewhat surprising to learn that he only has five career nominations. Many of his great film roles went unnoticed by the academy, but which of his snubbed performances is the BEST?September 13, 2016 at 12:55 pm #1201921850
Captain Philips. Really impressed with him in the scene with the nurse at the end of the movie.September 13, 2016 at 1:13 pm #1201921868
Toy Story 2
Toy Story 3
Toy Story 4

Hanks was so good in Captain Phillips. I would have had him win that year.

Toy Story, in which he plays a far more three-dimensional character than either of his Oscar-winning roles.September 13, 2016 at 2:49 pm #1201921934
Captain Phillips without a doubt. He was totally robbed that year.September 13, 2016 at 3:37 pm #1201921948

Yeah, Captain Phillips – even though there were a lot of great nominated and other unnominated performances that year, he should probably still have gotten in.September 13, 2016 at 4:40 pm #1201921982
I am torn.
That final sequence in Captain Phillips is stunning. The reports that the scene is was not scripted but improvised with the actual medical professional who first treated the real Captain Phillips makes Hanks all the more impressive.
I have always been fond of Hanks in the underrated Punchline. He captures the agony of the struggling artist. It is a marvelous performance in a flawed film.September 13, 2016 at 5:09 pm #1201921986
For me, it’s easily Captain Phillips. How he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for that performance, yet Christian Bale was nominated for American Hustle, I will never understand.September 14, 2016 at 1:38 am #1201922135
I loved Captain Phillips, it was one of my favorite movies of that year, but for me Hanks overacted in the last scene. It felt really forced.
I am still going with Green Mile and Road to Perdition.September 14, 2016 at 3:47 pm #1201922514
Captain Phillips. He should have won too. But the one no one talks about anymore is Catch Me if You Can. I would have swapped him with Walken for a nomination.
