I was just watching Catherine Zeta-Jones win her Oscar for Chicago, and I was blown away by fellow-nominee Queen Latifah’s reaction to her co-star winning over her.

Which leads me to my question: what is the best/worst reaction you’ve seen a nominee have to winning or losing the Oscar?

I thought you were blown away by reaction of Zeta Jones’ future co-star, Kathy Bates, deciding what to do when Sean Connery just mumbled “Catherine”.

When Holly Hunter heard piano costar Anna Paquin she didn’t even think of herself losing for the firm. She had lost but was so happy that paquin won.

When Cher won, you had the best and worst reactions ever.

Streep jumping for joy and Sally Kirkland knowing that all her campaigning was for not. Her reaction is amazing!

Denzel losing to Affleck. So good.

Wasn’t that just a shot of him being shown after his nomination clip was played. Pretty sure it was. For whatever reason, Denzel seemed anxious and on edge the whole night. But the whole “teary eyed” shot happened before he actually knew he lost. He defintely had something going on in his mind, but that shot was not about him reacting poorly to losing.

Yeah, I just watched the clip of Affleck winning to make certain. Denzel immediately started clapping for Affleck and breaks into a smile when his name was announced. He didn’t have an awkward reaction at all.

Anyway, the clip of Washington’s real reaction is here (at 2:45):

Halle Berry’s win is a joke but her reaction is priceless.

Meryl Streep’s reaction to Susan Sarandon and Cher winning an Oscar are also my favorite.

    That Samuel Jackson “Sh!t”
and finally Elizabeth Taylor’s winning reaction in 1961.
