Since we have already put him against Olivier and O’Toole (and won against those two) in the polls, then why not completing this ultimate trifecta with Daniel Day-Lewis???
So who’s a better/greater actor, Hopkins or Day-Lewis???April 25, 2021 at 3:47 am #1204220572
Love hopkins but DDL all the wayApril 25, 2021 at 5:13 am #1204220651
My Beautiful Laundrette
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
My Left Foot
The Last of The Mohicans
In The Name of The Father
The Age of Innocence
Gangs of New York
There Will Be Blood
DDL, no question.April 25, 2021 at 5:34 am #1204220668
I always know Sir Daniel is acting, I can’t get it out of my head when I watch him. There is something slightly self conscious. Whereas Sir Anthony feels more versatile, convincing and seamless. They’re both insanely good.
Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing
Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.April 25, 2021 at 7:17 am #1204220855
I can’t see Hopkins doing half of the roles DDL has done and pull it off.April 25, 2021 at 7:21 am #1204220879
DDL has the better filmography and his character work is exquisite.

Daniel Day-Lewis by a long shot.April 25, 2021 at 8:44 am #1204221100
Day-Lewis has a wider voice, accent and general character range, although Hopkins is far more naturalistic.
As someone above said, for most of Day-Lewis’ post 2000s work, you can feel the performer-y element in his work even though he is extremely method as an actor and wants to live and breathe his characters. Hopkins has a more classical feel as a performer, tends to find truth in his character from the people/things around him and his character’s personal circumstances rather than full on transforming into his character like DDL does.
DDL’s performances in the 20th Century were a lot like Hopkins’ in general in a lot of ways – more understated and naturalistic.
Depends on what you want really – both are among the greatest actors ever, and both give two of the greatest performances of the 21st Century (There Will Be Blood, The Father).April 25, 2021 at 9:38 am #1204221245
Hopkins. Because he is more natural, while Day Lewis has that vibe of “look how hard I’m acting”. Though Day Lewis in Gangs of New York is better than anything Hopkins has done.April 25, 2021 at 9:41 am #1204221256
This is harder than picking Best ActressApril 25, 2021 at 10:06 am #1204221352
Daniel Day Lewis and its not even close. He has the transformative quality which Hopkins lacks.April 25, 2021 at 10:59 am #1204221501
Daniel Day-Lewis. No to the trifecta tho.April 25, 2021 at 11:00 am #1204221505
DDL because he transforms like no other actor I have ever seen. Not now
