Depp’s best are probably in Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, POTC, and Sweeney Todd while Pitt has great work in The Tree of Life, Moneyball, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Fight Club, Snatch, 12 Monkeys, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. So while I think that Depp’s great performances are on par with Pitt’s best, Pitt just has more great work.

ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2021 at 8:11 pm #1204262653They’re both “icons” and movie stars. But I don’t really consider either great actors. While Depp got trapped playing “really odd dude with a weird voice but is likable” roles. Pitt is at his best when he plays bigger and outrageous. And his filmography is stronger. I think Depp might be the more capable actor though.

ReplyCopy URLMay 20, 2021 at 6:06 pm #1204263928Brad Pitt is aware of his limitations. And has developed a very seamless style. Whereas Depp is always attempting to leap from the balcony with his choices. Sometimes they work extremely well like Ed Wood and others feel like strange failures.
ReplyCopy URLMay 20, 2021 at 6:15 pm #1204263940Brad Pitt easily. When Johnny Depp goes into quirky mode in roles like Jack Sparrow, he becomes too annoying. I’ll forever maintain that he did NOT deserve his Oscar nomination for Curse Of The Black Pearl.

He deserved his nomination and he should’ve won.

My choice? Depp, by far.

Least Depp u either get the cartoony Tim Burton chars, Jack sparrow chars, or his serious roles that sometimes pays off. Pitt’s filmography is by far more consistent and acclaimed than Depp’s though.
Surprised this wasnt a poll of Clooney vs Pitt when they have the same Oscar wins (supporting actor & pic) and same number of acting nominations.

May 21, 2021 at 1:21 am #1204264391Pitt by far. I’d take his amazingly consistent filmography any day over Depp’s hit or miss movies, some of which are truly horrendous like Willy wonka. Pitt is just an all around more talented industry member, look at all his producing credits.
Depp´s filmography in the 90s >>>>>>Pitt´s filmography
