Surely HBO should have made the Hattie McDaniel Story with Monique by now?Mo’Nique refuses to play a maid or any other ‘stereotype’, which is why she turned down Ocatvia Spencer’s role, Minny, in The Help. Assuming the pic would focus on her Oscar-winning turn in Gone with the Wind. Imagine two-time Oscar winner Mo’Nique! People on this board would have been PISSED. The greatest thing I’ve seen in years is Mo’Nique verbally refusing to campaign, and still winning.
Bologna. First of all, Mo’Nique owns the rights to Hattie’s life and is ready and willing to make the movie. However, she is waiting for Lee Daniels to finish up several projects so she can work with him again. Read the third paragraph from the bottom: http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/11/16/us-monique-idUSTRE5AF0LV20091116
And Mo’Nique was never offered the role of Minny in “The Help.” Several actresses were considered, but only Octavia Spencer was offered. She had voiced the part in the audio version of The Help and was a childhood friend of Tate Taylor, the director of the film. In fact, she was part of the inspiration for the character in the book by Kathryn Sockett. Read more here: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20551131,00.html
If you have any documentation, I may be more inclined to believe you.
The idea of her playing Hattie McDaniel (solely based on her Gone with the Wind role) was a complete assumption based on her quite clearly stating she didn’t accept the role of Minny as she felt it was too stereotypical. Am not sure I can find that clip from her talk show, but I’ll give it a whirl.

Her story:
“In the 1960s she was the head of a French network of call girls/prostitute who worked for dignitaries, political figures, members of the Mafia, as well as police administrators.”
Maryl streep, Helen Mirren or Jessica Lange ?February 1, 2013 at 8:45 pm #89590I’ve also wanted a biopic about Dr. King. I don’t know who could play him, though. Maybe Jeffrey Wright again. And about that Kurt Cobain biopic, I would choose probably Ewan McGregor to play him. And the title would be “All Apologies” like you said.
McGregor is too old to play Cobain.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 1, 2013 at 8:50 pm #89591
KURT (Kurt Cobain)
Dir: David Fincher
Starring: Andrew Garfield (Kurt Cobain) and Keira Knightley (Courtney Love)
Premise: The story of how Kurt founded Nirvana, put the grunge in the music scene and all the demons that surround the genius until his suicide.I’ve read over the years Courtney Love’s plans for a biopic to be made, and her casting ideas, which have included Ewan McGregor, and more recently Ryan Gosling or James McAvoy, as her late husband. She also said she would want Scarlett Johansson to play herself, a role that Johansson has said she’d be interested in.
Also, I would probably go with one of Nirvana’s song titles (“All Apologies”?), or perhaps a line of one of their songs, as the title. The script which was in the works (not sure if it still is) was based on the Cobain biography Heavier Than Heaven, also a possible title for a film adaptation.
Ryan Gosling would be perfection.
And if I would have to use a song as the title, I’d pick ”Come As You Are”.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2013 at 5:38 am #89593Wow this is fun. I will give it a try…
KING (Martin Luther King Jr.)
Director (Spielberg), The story will focus more on Dr. King’s personal life and his stuggles more than the entie civil rights movementLANA (Lana Turner)
Director (Scorsese), Lana Turner (Naomi Watts), John Stompanato (Joaquin Pheonix), Cheryl Crane (Hailee Steinfield)
Lana Turner was a midwest girl who was discovered at a drug store in Hollywood. She became an Oscar nominated actress but her personal life would take over her image. She was well known for her many relationships with well known men in Hollywood but it was her relationship to John Stompananto that would change her life forever. Turner’s relationship with Stomapanto involved verbal and physical abuse. She was affraid of him because of his ties to the “crime world.” Stompanato was killed by Turner’s 14 year old daughter. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay in a bag!!!!!!!!Yes to ALL of this only, great actress that Naomi is, she has absolutely none of Lana’s star power.

But this is Mo’Nique saying she turned the role in THE HELP down…may not be the 100% truth.
