So most people are pretty much convinced that Viola Davis is going to be the second Black Best Actress winner but I was wondering who else people think could win the Award in the next few years after Viola (or before if she doesn’t actually end up winning this year)

If Angela Bassett really wants to go all out, with the hand of great writer, then she can be the next Best Actress winner. It seems that her high standard and preference towards biopic make an obstacle for herself, but it’s understandable that she wants to open the door for people of color differently.

I pray Andra Day does it this year and Angela Bassett deserves one… I just hope Bassett does something great in the coming years

Rooting the hardest for Angela, Alfre and Lupita. But why not Danai, Queen Latifah, Teyonah, Emmy legend Regina etc ? They all deserve a shot

I think Lupita has had a constantly strong career after her first win so i could see her winning another at some point.

Angela Bassett is always good and could do it if the right role comes her way.

Cynthia Erivo will likely win one soon, possibly for the project she just announced where she’s playing an African Princess?

Octavia Spencer is becoming a consistent nominee so maybe she could pick up another win at some point?

Phylicia Rashad is well respected and just needs the right role to propel her to all the awards.

Tessa Thompson seems like she could win or at least be nominated for something sooner rather than later too.

I’m selfish so I want it to be Lupita. That woman is not only a skilled performer, but I devour every interview she gives and the sheer intelligence she so effortlessly transpires .  Nonetheless, many others are making excellent choices that will prove fruitful soon enough.

The most likely candidates at the moment seem to be Lupita, Cynthia and Tessa. They have the skill and momentum on their side. With that being said, I would love to see Alfre, Angela and Whoopi win lead statues.

Since she turned 96 yesterday does anybody think Cicely Tyson could stand any chance?

She’s still working consistently and if she gets a The Trip to Bountiful or Driving Miss Daisy type role she could come back and shock everybody by winning at the age of 100 or something.

I know that it’s very unlikely but I think it would be cool if something like that happened lol.

Most people will disagree, and I can easily see myself changing, but I’m going out in a limb and saying Andra Day will win this year.

Granted, it’s more based on her not having the same issues preventing her from winning as the other women in president to get nominated right now. Once I know more, she may have even won ore obstacles, in which case I’d lower her.

thought I’d bump this thread. 1 Black actress/actress of color in almost 100 years is absurd.
