Viola is likely going to have an overdue narrative now which may push her to a win sooner than later

I think Lupita would have best chance

I would be surprised if Lupita ever got a best actress nomination. Another Best supporting actress nomination? Maybe.

From now on, I refuse to predict a WOC (or any POC for that matter) to win a Lead Oscar. Even if it’s undeniable, I’ll be apprehensive. It’s obvious Hollywood only sees Black performers as supporting players. Look at how Daniel & LaKeith (the obvious leads of Judas) were demoted to the non-lead category.

Viola Davis will obviously win Actress one day, she just needs the right vehicle.

For all we know it just may be JHud given what happened this year, but it’s definitely not guaranteed. Now watch this forum explode if she manages to win one of the major precursors for ‘Respect’ lol.

I’ll predict J.Hud for a nod. But a win isn’t happening unless Respect is a Best Picture nominee or she sweeps the entire season. I’m tired of getting my hopes up for a WOC to finally win after nearly 20 years. It’s exhausting.

JHud looks average in Respect and there’s no way she’s (of all people) winning best actress lol. Next year seems out of the question, but, in general, I’m betting on Zendaya. She sells, they keep shoving her down our throats, it’s only a matter of time she leads an Oscar vehicle & wins a la JLaw.

I’m not even confident Zendaya could win in Lead. They’ll probably hype her up all season long then come Oscar night she’ll lose to a veteran like McDormand or Streep.

I’m somewhat surprised at the reaction here… After BAFTA, wasn’t McDormand a done deal? Nobody actually saw Day, and Davis’ film didn’t have the support she would need.

Obviously, there’s an absurd number of performances from black women and non-men that have been deserving of this award, the vast majority of which have not come close to the discussion because they’re not in studio productions. Like I said a few months ago–shit like this will continue to happen so long as focus is locked squarely on representation, rather than revolution.

This. Maybe Zendaya because she is young and beautiful like a young Halle Berry but Zendaya is biracial

I thought Denzel Washington was easily winning his 3rd Oscar as Macbeth but now I don’t know. Denzel will need The Greatest Performance Of All Time to win his 3rd Oscar

    &nbs
What did she sell? Mac& Cheese? Malcolm&Marie was a flop. Euphoria is doing fine for a cheapo show but it isn’t anywhere close to being a ratings/viewership phenomenon.  Queen’s Gambit it ain’t. Spiderman is a brand so her credit in its success is non-existant. So that’s a myth that she’s bankable. And no, 100M likes on her Ista do not count as bankability.

Yes she is shoveled down our throats but the industry doesn’t seem in a rush to Oscar-ize her either. Correct me if I’m wrong but what else did she win after her Emmy win? I’m pretty sure SAG anbd Globes completely ignored her even for a nomination.

    Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Beyond the Lights still one of the most underrated films of the 2010s.

Emmys FYC: Alan Tudyk in “Resident Alien”, Billie Piper in “I Hate Suzie”, Ego Nwodim in “Saturday Night Live”, Kaley Cuoco in “Harley Quinn”

“Dickinson”, “P-Valley”, “Pose” & “Superstore” in all categories
