thought I’d bump this thread. 1 Black actress/actress of color in almost 100 years is absurd.

A cruel reminder. White people are uninterested in Black leading ladies for film.

What did she sell? Mac& Cheese? Malcolm&Marie was a flop. Euphoria is doing fine for a cheapo show but it isn’t anywhere close to being a ratings/viewership phenomenon.

Malcolm & Marie is an weird inaccessible artsy project about the industry (and I cannot stress this enough, isn’t a good film).

As for Euphoria, it’s on HBO, a cable channel (whom like all linear television) has declining ratings.

And no, 100M likes on her Ista do not count as bankability.

Followers. Ain’t nobody getting a 100m likes, lol. The most liked (non-Egg) pic is Billie Eilish debuting her blonde hair (22.5m)

Correct me if I’m wrong but what else did she win after her Emmy win? I’m pretty sure SAG anbd Globes completely ignored her even for a nomination.

They did but her Emmy win was a year long journey (she did make CC though).

June 2019 – Euphoria debuts and causes “controversy” due “omg would somebody think of the children teenagers” outrage
August – as it is continuing, those who stick with it as praising to the rooftops, including Leonardo DiCaprio & Sam Esmail.

    — gets blanked at Winter awards outside of a CC nom for Zendaya and a surprising strong Craft Guild run —

March/April – becomes one of HBO’s top performing shows on streaming during the initial lockdown

May – gets a surprise nomination at BAFTA for International Program. And I when say, I really do mean surprise. Nobody in the BAFTA TV threads had even brought it up as a possibility, at all.

Her Emmy win (and the shows two more) was clearly a case of people discovering it naturally on it’s own (as opposed to it being heavily campaigned / forced upon them) and being genuinely passionate about it the way other things just weren’t shows.

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

Yes she is shoveled down our throats but the industry doesn’t seem in a rush to Oscar-ize her either. Correct me if I’m wrong but what else did she win after her Emmy win? I’m pretty sure SAG anbd Globes completely ignored her even for a nomination.

Zendaya’s Emmy nomination was AFTER Globes and SAG snubs due to the early eligibility cycle of “Euphoria.” Voters found the series over a year’s time, and the nominations organically followed.

Spiderman is a brand so her credit in its success is non-existant. So that’s a myth that she’s bankable. And no, 100M likes on her Ista do not count as bankability.

Zendaya has been the lead actress of 3 hit shows and she’s not even 25 years old yet currently leading her 3rd hit show euphoria which for her highly acclaimed performance the industry folks voted for making her the youngest lead drama actress Emmy winner of all time and she got another crtics choice award nom for euphoria and for her flop movie she got a critic’s choice nom and made bafta shortlist and the oscars invited her to present im pretty sire when she when time is right the industry crowns her. ALREADY DID WITH AN EMMY but oscar when the right role comes.

It would be so typical and basic if another biracial actress were to become the second.

Francis “overrated as hell” Mcdormand’s win has done one thing for me; I will definitely be rooting for Viola Davis this award year. There is no way in hell that this mediocre monotone white women gets to win three Oscars and Davis doesn’t get a second.

It’s going to be someone out of the left field.

Frances “Inclusion Rider” McDormand including another Actress award to her collection (plus Producer award) is legendary. Keep riding those inclusion, Fran!

The greatest chance for a black actress to win the best actress oscar in the next couple of years will be Naomi Ackie who will be playing Whitney Houston in her bio film.

This film has all the elements needed to get Naomi the Oscar. She will be playing an icon, one of the most famous singers in history who had a troubled life. The screenplay is written by Anthony McCarten whose previous 3 films have given best actor oscars to Rami Malek and Gary Oldman and oscar nominations to Jonathon Pryce and Anthony Hopkins.

The film will be released in November 2022, perfect timing for oscar season and the academy is now very eager to reward a black actress for best actress since it’s been 20 years since Halle Berry won. If Naomi manages to embody Whitney and pull off a great performance she will be guaranteed the best actress Oscar.

Reall great point. WH biopic has an excellent chance to be a sizeable international hit. If it captures the “concert movie” energy of Bohemian Rhapsody and Ackie strikes the likeness, it’s going to massive.

Imagine thinking that 4-time Oscar winner McDormand with her strong body is work is “mediocre” just because your fav didn’t win. lol
