I read about the life of Marilyn Monroe’s mother and I sincerely believe Julianne Nicholson has an Oscar calibre capital B Baity role.
Forget the Metcalf/Janney bloodbath…prepare for Nicholson/Smart this year 💀

But why? Shouldn’t a teaser give nothing away?

It just didn’t excite me as much as I was hoping it would with its psychoanalytical tease.
The cinematography was beautiful though and I guess if it’s any consolation it hasn’t deterred me from wanting to watch it.

Fair enough babe, have you read the novel? Tbh from what I’ve read of your objective comments on millions of threads in the past I can’t imagine what would put you off watching any movie lmao…

I have indeed! Whilst I don’t really ever read pieces of literature with the idea of how great an adaptation it would make I’ve been looking forward to this film because I found Oates’ book to be a really compelling psycho-drama. Hopefully Dominik’s version lives up!

You’d be surprised how many Oscar contending films I’ve skipped over the years! There’s actually one being released next week whose marketing makes me feel like the epitome of this gif haha.
ReplyCopy URLJune 19, 2022 at 3:25 pm #1204990116It seems people didn’t learn the lesson with Spencer and Kristen Stewart. Blonde will alineate audiences and the NC-17 rating won’t help. Before proclaiming Oscar winner Ana de Armas, please read the original novel. It’s the full antithesis of Oscar bait biopic (Rape mentions, baby head talking, menstrual blood references and that’s just the peak of the iceberg). It’s full meta universe about the conception of Marilyn and the real persona of Norma Jean. Pure psychological terror. If somehow Netflix does the magic again, the nom is the reward and we know how Stewart barely made it.
I agree. I doubt an NC-17 could make it

July 10, 2022 at 4:27 pm #1205008404An X rated film has won Best Picture. I don’t think the Academy cares, if its compelling to them, then it’s compelling.

Shame just wasn’t a top contender. It was barely nominated for any major category outside of Best Actor at the precursors. It wasn’t because of the NC-17 rating. Y’all are acting like they won’t vote for it JUST because of the rating. If they like it and if Blonde can break through during awards season, they will vote for it. It’s not that deep.
