Bradley Cooper’s next film as director (and star) will be a biographical film about composer Leonard Bernstein, which will be produced by Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg (who already has a new film adaptation of Bernstein’s West Side Story coming out later this year), and Todd Phillips for Netflix.

ReplyJanuary 21, 2020 at 8:47 am #1203296450I swear some of these actors daydream thinking, “hmm who do I sort of look like that I could play in a biopic with a little bit of prosthetics..?”

January 21, 2020 at 9:36 am #1203296517It’s easy to be sceptical about yet another A-lister in a biopic, but I’m honestly looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Cooper has at least demonstrated he could be up to the task with A Star Is Born. The Bernstein estate apparently gave the team its blessing, which was not the case with a proposed version with Jake Gyllenhaal, if I remember correctly. I’m glad it’s Cooper over Gyllenhaal anyway, as I find the former more relaxed and spontaneous as an actor, qualities which are essential for playing Bernstein.

Maybe Penélope Cruz?

According to reports, production on this movie is expected to begin early next year.

Marina de Tavira would be cool. Or else a complete unknown.

Cooper will reportedly be shooting Nightmare Alley in March so I think it will be released in 2021

Almost positive Carey Mulligan has been attached as the wife for a while now, as this project was initially announced over a year ago. I’m even pretty sure that Mulligan has been at events/doing research closely with Cooper. I doubt she’d back out of something like this and I doubt Cooper would replace her as I’ve read/heard he’s a fan.

Since the real Felicia Montealegre was Chilean, shouldn’t the actress playing her be of Hispanic descent?

Jonathan Pryce did just play someone who was Argentine.

Some Hispanic people are white. I’m Puerto Rican but I, and others, would definitely call myself white.
