I rewatched this recently and he still played himself…a geek version… no change in accent or mannerisms…I don’t get the hype…

That’s interesting. I rewatched it last year and always forget that it’s him.
The first time I saw it I didn’t even know until the end credits.Also like him in Pulp Fiction and The 6th Sense

His best performance was probably PULP FICTION in terms of films but I still think his star-making TV work as David Addison on MOONLIGHTING might be my favorite performance of his.
