I wouldn’t be surprised with OUATIH winning either, to be honest. Not even Jojo. Been seeing a lot of love for them, although Jojo is more divisive. But what works in OUATIH’s favor is the rewriting of history, which makes it feel hopeful. It’s the kind of “What if?” ending that people eat up. I don’t think had it respected history, would the movie have had the same appeal. Voters most often prefer happy endings in favor of the more bleak ones, which is why I do feel worried about Parasite.

That’s what I’ve been thinking about OUATIH. The fact that it ends on a happy note. I haven’t seen the entirety of Parasite, but from what I’ve seen the ending seems more bittersweet, though I could be wrong.

    SPOILERS FOR OUATIH AND PARASITE:

Without giving too much away, while I would consider Parasite’s ending as rather bleak, I also don’t think it should have ended in a different way. It’s just like life itself: you don’t always get what you want. And sometimes, this is the ending that fits the story.

But I can see voters watching OUATIH and feeling relived it ended the way it did, almost like a revenge fantasy for how history treated some of those real-life figures. The ending of a movie is what sticks with people the most, and the taste it leaves can influence the overall opinion. It happened to me too that I completely dismissed movies or series just because I hated the endings.

That’s what I’ve been thinking about OUATIH. The fact that it ends on a happy note. I haven’t seen the entirety of Parasite, but from what I’ve seen the ending seems more bittersweet, though I could be wrong.

I bet most of those who voted for 1917 are last year’s anonymous voters who picked Green Book, and those voting for Parasite were last year voting for Roma. I could even swear someone had the exact same comments regarding a movie, but they just replaced it with this year’s. Although, yeah, I can feel the passion for Parasite there, even in this < %1 pool of voters, and I’m not changing my initial pick no matter how much my brain screams at me.

Well, this is one of the most boring ballots they published: https://www.goldderby.com/article/2020/secret-oscar-voter-ballot-exposed-the-irishman-joaquin-phoenix-scarlett-johansson/ although Scarlett x 2 is definitely AN INTERESTING CHOICE lol.

Y’all are crazy if you’re switching predictions because of anon ballots lmfao

I’m predicting Parasite for BP but it’s obvious that these journalists select the ballots that have interesting choices and not the frontrunner to create anticipation and sometimes that gives false hope.

However, if Parasite DOES win, I think it will have a lot to thank to Roma for paving the way and opening this conversation in first place, with all the campaigning and disappointment that followed. While I initially thought Parasite would have been a sure BP winner had it been released in time for last year’s Oscars, due to considerably weaker competition, now that I think of it, it would have just been Roma 2.0, merely helping the conversation for the next great foreign movie on whether or not it should also be a BP contender/winner.

I think the big difference between Roma and Parasite is that the latter has an unprecedented passion behind it. Almost everyone is rooting REALLY HARD for the movie to win. It’s Crazy. People liked Roma a lot and were rooting for it as well but it doesn’t even compare to the love that Parasite has received.
