I’m doubting this well get much love. It looks very european. The Academy hates gay movies. Moonlight only won because of the narrative. Don’t be fooled into thinking they now love diversity. I hope I’m wrong but history is not on the movie’s side.

They can make up the embarrassment of the Crash vs Brokeback Mountain and the Carol BP/Best Director snub with this.

I didn’t realize that was an original song, yeah that was great, way better than the usual original song winners.

I don’t see this movie getting snubbed unless they decide to just not to campaign at all. I’m not totally sure about Chamalet getting nominated just because they don’t usually like nominating young guys. Stuhlbarg also doesn’t really do all that much, but has gotten a lot of praise for one scene, I can only see him get in if the field is weak, which it might be.

This also has 98 on metacritic and will probably be the critics favorite throughout awards season.

I bet Oscar nominations for best motion picture, director and adapted screenplay. It’s a must see.

Early and perhaps optimistic predictions for Oscar noms for this movie

    Best Picture
    Best Director
    Best Adapted Screenplay
    Best Actor
    Best Supporting Actor
    Best Film Editing
    Best Cinematography
    Best Original Score
    Best Original Song

Maybe it won’t get all of these but these are ones I think it has a good chance in.

I am over this endless string of movies that tell us “gay love” is fleeting, subversive, impractical and often tragic. And it almost never arises from genuine sexual attraction and understanding but rather discovery, confusion, frustration, desperation and “passion”. And they’re almost always set at least twenty years in the past. And yes, they always star hetero actors. I guess this pattern won’t end because the industry is filled with closet cases, pedophiles, men who are only attracted to very young men and/or “straight guys” and people who use their sexual behavior to indulge fetish and megalomania. I’ve accepted that long ago.

However, the reviews are on point, the trailer is intriguing and both Hammer and Chalamet are yummy. So, I’ll judge it on its own merits.

That’s basically the opposite of what this movie is.

I feel like there might be some sjw backlash who get upset that there isn’t enough trouble or persecution the characters go through for being gay.

Have you seen it? Not talking about the novel.

I tend to see different things in these types of movies than most critics. I’m just bored with and a bit annoyed by these “hot and heavy and sexy and sad but kinda uplifting gay fling” flicks, which seem to be the only context in which Hollywood or the industry in general can place homo and homo-dominant men. Though that won’t take anything away from it being a quality movie if it is.
