There is no “best actor in history” and Adam Driver will not be it.
I do think that a woman with a face like his would probably never even be allowed on camera though.
What a nice, kind thing to say. You’re doing great!

cause quantity =/= quality
ReplyCopy URLApril 11, 2022 at 12:23 pm #1204912819It’s true, no point in pretending it’s not. (I’m a woman)
ReplyCopy URLApril 11, 2022 at 2:45 pm #1204913122He seems like a good genuine dude. But I don’t see the fascination with him. He’s good but I’ve never been blown away
Guys like DiCaprio, Nicholson, etc. just have an “it” factor that he doesn’t have and most don’t
ReplyCopy URLApril 11, 2022 at 2:57 pm #1204913138My favorite perf of his is in BlacKkKlansman, but his range is impressive. The man has worked with some of the best directors and actors in the industry. He knows everybody and they’re not shy about casting him.
I believe barring something unforeseen, that Oscar is waiting for him. And sooner rather than later.
Is he the greatest ever? Not yet.
I go out of my way to see his films.ReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.
I prefer my roses whiteApril 11, 2022 at 3:14 pm #1204913161I think he’s a good actor who is good at picking projects, but I do find him very overrated.
I saw him on Broadway and he was great, but I feel his acting style is kind of always the same. He’s good at having explosive moments that seem quite baity, but to me he’s always kind of playing a bit of himself. To me, he doesn’t seem to have the range of someone who is being called the best of his generation.
I thought he was borderline terrible in House of Gucci.

interesting you see range where I see one note. He plays all characters the same (not invalidating either view, just two perfectly acceptable different takes, isn’t that interesting?)

I should have said range of films. I can see his being viewed as one note as his face doesn’t contort much.
Indies, blockbusters, comedies and drama,. He tackles them allReplyCopy URLThe Sunne in Splendour.

ReplyCopy URLApril 12, 2022 at 9:31 pm #1204915007Maybe. He has to stop being one of the most overrated actors in history first though.
ReplyCopy URLApril 12, 2022 at 9:59 pm #1204915024I’m a fan, but lately he seems more interested in ticking off working with respected and well-known directors instead of considering whether he’s right for a part in a script.
I didn’t like House of Gucci, and I thought his performance was terrible and forgettable. It’s obvious Ridley cast him in it because he enjoyed working with him on The Last Duel. He’s also extremely miscast in Ferrari, the upcoming biopic that will be directed by Michael Mann. Adam is 38, and the film will focus on one year-1957-where the real Enzo was 59.

I didn’t make it through HofG. And I tried twice.

I prefer my roses whiteApril 12, 2022 at 10:56 pm #1204915067I like Driver (I think he’ll win an Oscar sooner rather than later) but I think he has a style a little atypical of his generation, which makes him stand out – his style sometimes reminds me of someone of a different era.
But I agree with the comment about the fact that I think his range isn’t as wide as people think. I also don’t love some of the choices he’s making though I acknowledge he’s still only in his thirties and making director connections. He feels to me like an actor that might also peak sooner rather than later in terms of lead roles, I can sort of imagine him transitioning to more character-actor parts in his fifties, for instance.
