Portraying a person who died of certain causes will lead Rami Malek to his hopeful Oscar win in less than two weeks’ time.February 11, 2019 at 6:40 am #1202771901
This and SA are the only 2 awards which are done.
Malek wasnt the best but he is getting all the Queen nostalgia support and whatever not, he cant lose now.
and side note ; Oh my Cooper U could have had all of this… Why go for the director gold!!February 11, 2019 at 6:48 am #1202771910
Cooper should win. At least we should have one decent acting winner this year

Cooper > The restFebruary 11, 2019 at 8:40 am #1202772047
This could’ve easily been Cooper’s year. Easily. He wrote/directed/produced/starred? Come on. Taking the labor of love approach all the way to the Oscar stage is not new to the playbook (Glenn Close is playing it right now, as a matter of fact) but it could’ve carried him if he’d clarified the narrative. That he’s been nominated a handful of times also helps.
Instead, I worry that he spent too much time discussing the film as a director, and it is clear that the directing branch of the Academy was less than impressed. Even the Directors’ Guild gave First Time Feature Film, a category he could’ve had in the bag to Bo Burnham. It is very clear that directors are not sold on Cooper the way his acting peers are, and he should’ve spent more time targeting them with his campaign instead.February 11, 2019 at 8:41 am #1202772048
Rami Malek being this close to just being one award away from winning the Triple Crown of Acting as opposed to being two awards away is quite something. Who knew the actor who I thought seemed out-of-place in terms of time and setting in The Master would make it this far.
Re: Cooper focusing on Best Director. He clearly wanted to follow in Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, and Kevin Costner’s footsteps.February 11, 2019 at 8:48 am #1202772059
Sadly not. Animatronic is snatching that dildo.February 11, 2019 at 9:35 am #1202772156
Most likely not. At this point, it’s down to Bale vs. Malek. The others (probably) don’t have a chance.February 11, 2019 at 9:42 am #1202772172
Bale has won 3 major industry lead actor awards in shape of 2CC and a GG.
I wish people would stop it with that nonsense of assuming that the CC Comedy award is a precursor, because it is NOT. It is a pointless category/award. The only CC precursor is the one called Best Actor. Bale has only won TWO precursors compared to Malek’s 3 precursors.February 11, 2019 at 9:54 am #1202772197
Yeah Brody was much different- he was the only newcomer in a field of previous winners with Nicholson having lost too much steam and Day-Lewis starring in a movie with no passion behind it not to mention I have heard people state that it is more of a supporting role. Caine and Cage had zero chances of winning. It also helped Brody that The Pianist was surging late which gave him the edge over the rest of the nominees whose films were not that strong Oscar contenders even with the 10 nods for Gangs Of New York.
A Bale win would not be an upset but Malek has the edge/heat right now.
