Besides my dislike of Erivo, my only problem with this cast is it just seems unlikely to happen. Obviously it’s a dreamcast, but I’m just saying that I don’t think a film studio would want to give Joshua Henry one of the leading roles in this film, even though he would be a perfect fit for the part. Now it is possible that with the right team, a cast like this could be assembled (Netflix is willing to take risks, so they could take this one), I’m just saying the odds would be against it happening. But like I said, it’s a dreamcast, and a very good one, so that’s just me overthinking things.

Then again, if a Ragtime movie musical had enough marketable names in the cast, the filmmakers would have more freedom to cast who they want for other roles. Which is a pretty common thing in show business.

Greta Gerwig definitely feels like an inspired choice that I could see working. I’m not entirely sold on Lilla Crawford, but other than that I love I love the dreamcast; especially Michelle Williams/

I’d love to hear Michelle Williams’s “Back to Before”.

I’d love to hear Michelle Williams’s “Back to Before”.

She couldn’t sing Sally Bowles on Broadway. You need a true soprano. Anne Hathaway or Kristen Bell would be far more appropriate vocally. Michelle Williams should play Evelyn Nesbit.

First of all, Evelyn Nesbit was like 20 years old in 1906 (the year the story takes place), so Michelle Williams is already way too old for that role. Second of all, the role of Sally Bowles in the stage version of Cabaret isn’t suppose to be this great singer. That was one of the many liberties Bob Fosse took when he made the movie, mainly because he knew it would’ve been disservice to Liza Minnelli’s talents.
