This was the right thing to do. Having him there in the wake of #MeToo and #Time’sUp would be both awkward and hypcritical. Perhaps they’ll get Leonardo DiCaprio to present the category again?

Lol all the pressed people who predicted Denzel last year are now rejoicing

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Let Denzel be his substitute. Oh they could even retroactively take Affeck’s Oscar away and give it to Denzel.</p>

Likely he bowed out so the headline is “Casey Affleck skipping the Oscars, possibly because of #MeToo” instead of “Academy releases statement barring Affleck from presenting at the Oscars because of his sexual harassment settlements.”

Good for everyone involved. If the Oscars let Affleck present at the height of the #MeToo movement, it would be the definition of tone-deaf. If only we were capable of not giving sexual predators lead roles in the first place.

I think if Rose McGowan were to present Actress together it would be a truly beautiful moment. A rape victim of Harvey Weinstein who she helped expose, once silenced by the corrupt powers in Hollywood, now presenting a major Academy Award.

I’m thinking about Ashley Judd for similar reason. McGowan’s remark about Meryl Streep rubbed a great many people the wrong way.

If you want a truly beautiful moment, choose a strong woman that didn’t willingly accept hush money (or attempt to negotiate for more) from Harvey Weinstein.

It’s pretty fucking insulting to these women that awards shows are being catered to them as a way of apologizing for the metric ton of shit spanning so many different, and insidious, and vindictive moments where they had to be subservient to men.

Why don’t we cut the bullshit and just give them equal pay and equal rights and call it a day?  Well, of course not, this is more denigrating and insulting in the long run, and will serve nothing but to continue separating the genders, politically and otherwise.

“Oh, boo-hoo, here you go sweeties, Casey Affleck won’t present at the show, one step closer to your goal!”

It’s flabbergasting to me how women in Hollywood are so irate and OVER it and yet they’re perfectly content with accepting this sort of olive branch as well as the HFPA’s without calling them out on doing too little, too late.

It’s been decades too late for taking small steps.  Just take the streets and burn it all down!  We can rebuild!

Ashley Judd would be a great substitute for Casey Affleck.

Not bad. I’m thinking Jessica Chastain.

Why not someone relevant and with real talent?

The Oscar needs to get rid of the preferential ballot so it can name a deserving movie as Best Picture again.

Because with some rare exceptions like Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Strepp and, and, and no one else moviegoers don’t go to a movie theater to watch women.

They don’t have to watch women.

Women just need to get paid equally and given the same rights and treatment as men.

And that needs to be a collective law enforced.

Doesn’t matter who goes or doesn’t go to the movies to watch women.

Letting all women present at an awards show is a patronizing thing to do and shows me that no one with the power to enact change from the other side of fence is taking the actual issue seriously.

Pound-signing Me Too is doing about the same.

    Just saying…

Movie business is just that a business is not community service or charity, people pay to be entertained and movie goers want to see certain actors and pay for it, those actors are the ones who made possible that there’s a picture to be filmed in the first place and those actors need to be paid accordingly with the merit of their work in from of the camera and at the box office.

Okay, so let’s say the business of Hollywood is correct and actors are getting paid according to, as you say, “the merit of their work in from [sic] of the camera and at the box office”, it would all still be patronizing and humiliating given one of the hundreds of allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct proven true in court.

Just one is enough and one too many, and reason enough for actual change to take place, not these pageant show changes that do nothing.

Why does it matter who presents what if behind the curtains it’s all the same and remains so?  That’s a crock of shit.

Like yourself, I suppose? Or a white man, as you seem to prefer?

Women are treated unequally in cinema because of decades of male-dominated culture. Now that we as a society are more aware of the injustice of that, it’s time to take steps to dismantle the system and create true equality. Equal pay and refusing to honor sexual predators are some of those steps.
