Apparently, Johnny Depp will be the Baker in Marshall’s Into the Woods. I’m so sad for this choice, SO sad!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Depp is in talks to play the Wolf.  As I’m not familiar with the show, I’m not sure if you’d like that better or not.  Meryl Streep is confirmed for the Witch, and it sounds like Allison Janney is either confirmed or in talks, as well.

Edited to add- though the Variety article, which has been updated several times, does say that he’d play the Baker.  Other articles are confused as to which is right.  I guess it’ll shake out soon enough…

Let’s wait and see, I’m not so sure where I could put Depp in this musical.

The Wolf or the Narrator might work. If they try to make him the Baker…

I hope the rumors about Depp playing the WOLF are true.  I don’t think he would make a BAD Baker, but there are many more actors who are far more appropriate casting.  He would be FANTASTIC as the wolf, though.

I think that ‘Next to Normal’ could translate quite well to screen if they have the right person to adapt it. It is one of my favorite musicals of all time, but one has to admit that the book was probably the weakest link. I they have the right person to adapt it, it could be amazing.

    Next to Normal
Diana: Kate Winslet or Alice Ripley
    Dan: Phillip Seymour Hoffman
    Natalie: Anna Kendrick
Gabe: Aaron Tveit (although he is getting a little old for the role)
Dr. Madden: Michael Fassbender (if he can sing. It has to be a good looking, young guy)
Dr. Fine: Doesn’t matter, as long as he can sing.

Richard Gere would be a terrible Charlemagne.

That’s exactly what people said about his casting in Chicago, as well as Depp’s in Sweeney Todd.

    Who would you cast?

Well they were right: he was the worst thing about Chicago.

Richard Gere’s role should have gone to Christopher Walken. He would have been great.

Christopher Walken would actually be quite an interesting Charlemagne, but some of the music may be a little too intense for him.

Dench is an interesting choice for Berthe. Andrea Martin (who absolutely blows you away in the current Broadway revival) would also be a great choice, but she’s probably too young to play the role on film. I still say that Elaine Stritch (who’s singing voice sounds exactly like Irene Ryan’s on the original Broadway cast recording) would be a terrific choice.

I think Kate Winslet would be a magnficent Diana. Although I would love to see Alice Ripley reprise the role, I don’t think she has the star power (yet)

Philip Seymour Hoffman has to play Dan. I’ve heard that Robert Downey Jr. is rumored to be attached to  Yorkey/Kitt film, but that seems like its not N2N.
