If you believe in Dune Oscar potential in above the line categories, come over here! First look of Chala’dib has dropped, more to come:
Supporting Actress (Ferguson)
Supporting Actor (Skarsgaard, maybe Bardem)

I’m still guessing this isn’t going to make much of a splash this awards seasons outside of some technical nominations.April 13, 2020 at 10:36 am #1203424507
We’ll see. The book is a masterpiece and they did the right thing to split it in 2 movies. This is not Hobbit-like cash grab but a necessity like Deathy Hallows.
I think it has all ingrediences for a massive awards player. Maybe first movie won’t win but if it impresses enough and second retains quality, it could pull a LOTR. Sci fi is due to win and this and/or Nolan could be it.April 13, 2020 at 10:40 am #1203424513
I predicted this to be a flop at the box office but the current situation might change that. The audiences weren’t crazy about high concept sci-fi but they might go watch this purely because of the months of quarantine.
Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)April 13, 2020 at 10:46 am #1203424521

Let’s not try to predict the next Lord or the Rings. I don’t expect there to ever be another Lord of the Rings for a very, very long time.
Also, Lord of the Rings’ source material was much more beloved and famous than Dune’s, so the comparison doesn’t really work.April 13, 2020 at 11:15 am #1203424577
can’t disagree. LOTR is the greatest movie trilogy ever made and some of the greatest movies ever made when taken individually so it’s a fair point that any movie aspiring to top it is set for fail.
I also understand that Dune had 2 adaptations that didn’t do it justice so some deem it unadaptable.
Which makes stanning for it all the more exciting. It could go either way.
I do think that Supporting Actress and Actor could happen. Lady Jessica is the most developed role plus it’s one of those supporting roles with a lot of screen time. It wouldn’t be a category fraud cause she isn’t the main protagonist but the size of the role gives her enough to do. OTOH, Baron and Stilgar are show-stealing roles that supporting category loves. First one is a villain. So I have faith.April 13, 2020 at 12:05 pm #1203424673
This one will get delayed to 2021 and still won’t make much of an impact awards season wise.April 13, 2020 at 1:38 pm #1203424814
I see this going the way of Blade Runner 2049 both at the box office and in awards season.April 14, 2020 at 8:02 am #1203426114
Vanity Fair released more images of the cast including stillsuits:
if anyone can embed photos I’ll appreciate it.April 15, 2020 at 2:22 pm #1203428678
I think splitting the story in two parts may kill any Oscar chances the film(s) had above the line, even if it was necessary for the story. Maybe the films will be undeniable, but then again I thought BR2049 was undeniable and here we are.April 16, 2020 at 3:15 am #1203429608
2049 had a stupid story, though. Search for Star Child was cringe. Of all stories they could tell in that universe they went with the dumbest. and then the kid wasn’t even Gosling but some completely irrelevant background character played by an extra.
