I mean, most other actresses (especially those commanding $11 million per film and producer credits) had to arrive on the scene fully formed as actresses, talent in the back pocket and ready to go. They weren’t given constant leeway to “just give her a go” and improve. You’re either good or you take more acting classes and turn up when you’re better. I can’t think of one other actress who we were constantly told to just give her a chance to improve. I also thought she would have wanted to work with black directors and more women by now. Anyway here’s the script, scroll down to Challengers. It’s …. erm. Got some real clangers in there. https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/1B4hqH1wQp_15B1WLeCp48vvH7W31Wp7g

Well, my comment wasn’t implying that I didn’t already think Zendaya was good actress or that she needed to improve. I already believe she’s capable of playing a wide range of characters that have more depth, she just hasn’t been in projects that would outwardly show that she can. When you say “I can’t think of one other actress who was constantly told to just give her a chance to improve”, I take that to mean you don’t think she’s proved herself as a versatile actress yet and I guess on that we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I think there’s a difference between me saying that she needs a chance to go against her typecast (which she happens to play well) and saying that she’s an actress whose acting skills need to improve.

Read the script from Drive links, I have thoughts (that are subjectively my opinion) on this:

    • This feels like its written by Sam Levinson, for the better or worse
    • O’Connor playing a charming douche (again), but this feels fresh for him because its contemporary set and the Character is American
    • Zendaya got the material
    • Structure is a bit of question mark for me. Could go either way

    FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins

    Mike Faist let’s fucking gooooo

another Guadagnino in the works lol I don’t really care for him as a filmmaker, but this sounds interesting enough. It sounds like a 2000’s romantic comedy

For real, it’s the third movie he has on work lol

Just finished reading the script. In my humble opinion, I liked it. I felt it was a good read and I enjoyed it. I have some personal problems with the script. I wasn’t against the non-linear structure, I just would’ve preferred that it didn’t jump so much and it stayed in some of the timelines a bit longer. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending and found it kind of abrupt and needlessly ambiguous, but that’s just me. This is also probably not the final draft of the script and perhaps some of these things work better on screen than on paper. Overall I thought it was still solid. I really like the characters these three actors are playing. I could very easily visualize them performing this and that’s what has me most excited for this film. It’s nice seeing Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist getting more work. I do personally like Zendaya and it will be nice seeing her do a drama that isn’t by Sam Levinson (no disrespect to him).
