I think this could be a great topic for learning purposes and to see the shift in the film industry. China is slowly but surely stepping away from Hollywood, which may be damaging for Hollywood films.
According to China’s Box-Office, the highest grossing film this year alone is a movie titled Hi, Mom, which grossed over $818 million this year alone. There have been a few reports that China’s numbers are not real, but nothing has been confirmed.
Godzilla Vs. Kong had a great debut there, grossing nearly $70 million there alone.
What are your thoughts on China’s massive Box-Office and what do you think will come out of it?

They have their own film industry and no longer need Hollywood films to sustain their box office. Hi, Mom is the highest grossing movie of the year worldwide and Detective Chinatown 3 made more in its opening weekend than Avengers: Endgame. The Chinese are opening more cinemas while the United States are closing a lot of them due to the ongoing pandemic.
How is this affecting Hollywood? All American studios are interested in Chinese money, that’s for sure. But in my opinion, Hollywood films will remain mostly unaffected by that. We’ll see more Chinese actors in big budget films and more films about the Middle Kingdom but that’s pretty much it. The fear that Hollywood will censor their own films because of China is drastically overstated.
Are China numbers real? Yes, they are, and there’s no reason to think otherwise. China is not a closed market, they’re the second largest economy in the world (soon to be the first). If they were lying about their numbers, we would’ve heard of that already. Maoyan is a website that has every single detail about the Chinese box office. It’s unlike anything that we see in the west.
My opinion about all this? GREAT. I wish other movie markets and movie industries around the world were big like China. Hollywood hegemony is something the world needs to come over. As a box office fan, the growth of the Chinese market is something fantastic to see.

I think that as a biggest market, China also has the biggest fandom of these kind of blockbuster films, so it may be disadvantageous for both Disney and China to disallow it in their cinemas.

The controversy around her will probably be over by then and she’ll probably say something good about her country after the Academy Awards. Let’s see.

Nigerian Cinema (Nollywood) is upcoming and I feel like US may try some things with their industry. They missed out on Bollywood and China Cinema. They may begin to make deals to keep them earning money. Hollywood is like that.
