Do they ever split? I planned on taking mad max to win cinematography but I am definitely picking innaritu to win director, so if they never split, I’m forgoing my prediction of mad max upsetting the revenant for cinematography.

Side note, what do people usually put their big bets on? Like a sure thing or a potential huge upset?

Over the past 34 yrs they’ve coincided with BP about a dozen times.

What do I place my big bets on? Upsets. But then, I have nothing to lose or gain because I’m not American.

I’d love to see John Seale taking this, but it isnt going to happen. Very very unlikely. Btw, I have him, and again, it’s because I dont care about being wrong.

    Hope this helps. Lol.

ETA: Director/Cinematography wins are far more linked together. (The Revenant….)

I always save my Super Point bets for things that I’m reasonably confident in that are only 2nd or 3rd place in the prediction center. If I can’t find any, I tend to just randomly throw them onto sure things.

    Hi Alex:

I was in the middle of typing this out when Babypook beat me to the punch and replied to you first:

-11 of the past 15 Cinematography winners have also been nominated for Best Director.

-Of those 11 films 4 of them have also won for Best Director: Birdman, Gravity, Life Of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire

I would also suggest putting your big bets down on upset predictions. Those longshots may not win but if they do it can help you immensly on the leaderboard.  I predicted a few underdogs with the most recent DGA Awards, (The Revenant and Cartel Land) and they came through for me and I wound up with the first place finish. If you’re not keen on making “way out there” predictions my suggestion would be to put your Super and Big Bets down on your predicted winners with the slimmest odds or on a film that is in second or third place on the Gold Derby rankings.

    Best Of luck to you.

I hope everyone is doing well.

ASC winners have correlated with the Oscars only 43% of the time. Still, predicting anybody other than Lubezki to win the Oscar seems risky.
